Tricky to find Silence of the Lambs DVD with Anthony Hopkins commentary.

Not sure if blu rays / 4K has it.

    DVD advantage:
Great thing with media over streaming is you sometimes get Director/ Actor commentary which I find to be interesting.

Roger Ebert did a commentary for several DVDs. Haven't heard them but they're supposedly good: Commentary by Roger Ebert

Tarantino's commentary track on True Romance.
Bey Logan did a lot of good commentaries for HKL dvds back in the day.

Some dvds don’t come with commentary or at least with commentary from director... some actors don’t seem to do commentaries( not in contract .. maybe).

Dare I say, their commentaries are BETTER than the movies they make!

' This Is Spinal Tap' has arguably the best commentary of them all with it being done in-character by Tap.

Similarly , Robert Downey Jr is hilarious doing his in-character commentary on ' Tropic Thunder '

I particularly like actors commentaries. Michael Madsen Species DVD was interesting/fun.

Guess one of the advantages not to throw your dvds out. :)

    I never would.

Is it true that Spielberg and Tarantino have never done commentaries?

Commentaries are a mixed bag. The worst are the back slapping, self congratulatory or the describing the action on screen commentaries.
The best are well thought out and cover all aspects of the film including direction, acting, cinematography, writing, editing, pre and post production and the context of the times in which the film was made. Companies like Criterion are very good at putting together a well rounded commentary for their older films, at best when they are done by a film historian.
My favorite commentary is on the blu ray edition of The Godfather. Coppola discusses the entire process from conception to release and beyond, including his relationship to the studio during the time. Well worth viewing.

Spielberg has not. Tarantino has done a few commentaries for movies he hasn’t directed, as a knowledgeable admirer (or screenwriter, for True Romance).

The in-print Criterion DVD has the 1994 commentary that was first produced for their Laserdisc edition. The Criterion BD has the same commentary. There is no 4K UHD disc at the present time.

Yes. It was reissued on DVD by Criterion in 2018, alongside the BD.

I think there would have been a serious outcry if Criterion had issued a non-anamorphic DVD in 2018, don’t you?

    DVD (2-disc edition).

This commentary may be on Blu-ray now (Ultimate Edition?) but wasn't for years.

Do all blu rays have the commentaries like dvds , per se... like Silence Of The Lambs: A Hopkins?
