Well, I finally managed to purchase a US pressing of the DCC Highway 61 Revisited. I know that the equalization is different from the Japan press. But I can't seem to find any other threads. What, exactly, should I be listening for?

I hope Steve doesn't mind me posting this, but I asked him awhile back and he told me this:

"Regarding HWY 61, I remember we had to do a clone over of the "American" version and added 1/2 of a db at 10 to it (why, I can't imagine anymore)."

I'm unclear on what "1/2 of a dB at 10" means?

It should be 10K, an eq setting...

Thanks. I'm guessing that 1/2 a dB is a pretty small amount, right?

drbryant, try listening to the harmonica parts closely.

Yeah, but it can still affect the overall sound. I don't know how many copies of the US made release were made, but 99% of the copies sold in the Classifieds and on e-bay are made in Japan...

I was a pleasure to make this post my 2000th... :shh:

By measurement yes, but the differences can be large with even just that .5db.

A VERY small amount, yes. I highly doubt that I could even detect the difference, although I'm sure others can.

Is this the USA pressing of the HW61 DCC? My copy says Made in Japan underneath the "24kt Gold-Plated" print. The one below doesn't have it.

The Nimbus should be the US pressing.

Can you check your copy against the image I posted above and tell me if they are the same? I am trying to figure out how to identify the US pressing of this CD.

The one that doesn't say "made in Japan" on the CD. Luke answered your question.

    Thanks Darcy.

Luke said "should," so I wasn't sure how certain he was.

Off-topic, but I hope this question is allowed: how much does an American pressing of the Highway 61 Revisited DCC go for these days?

Good question. Did the USA come in the longbox or with the cardboard sleeve? I have seen both on eBay.

  19. It looks like $140 - $500 on ebay, but hard to tell which are Japanese vs US. That seems wildly expensive. I recall used copies going for $20 a couple of years back (although at the time I wasn't checking Japanese vs US)

Are they "buy it now" prices?

They are, actually. And they are sealed, which means they can't be identified by the CD. Since the artwork is the same, for those looking for a USA pressing, it will need to be confirmed by someone if the USA came in the longbox or cardboard sleeve. If it came in both types ofpackaging, then I don't know how folks will identify a sealed copy as being a USA pressing.

I really love the sound of all DCC titles I've had the pleasure of hearing. But Highway 61 is something special. It's so spacious-sounding (almost like it's 3-dimensional). The Doors titles are great too (at least the ones I've listened to - "The Doors", "Strange Days", "Waiting For The Sun").

BTW, I can't believe how much some places are asking for DCC titles. Go on Ebay and look for Roundabout Records' page. The "Buy It Now"'s for sealed gold CD's are downright unreal. $999.00 for McCartney's "Ram". $850.00 for Blondie's "Parallel Lines". $699.00 for "Hotel California". $599.00 for Van Halen's first album. $499 for "Highway 61 Revisited".

P.S. - What does Nimbus refer to?

Does the seller happen to be "mymusicfix"? :)

  24. In part, but there are other sellers pitching it at that price

As we used to say in Real Estate (about over priced houses): Just because someone is asking $8,000,000 dollars for a house doesn't mean it is worth $8,000,000 dollars.
