Well, this is just my opinion, but it seems a little high to me for a unit that the seller says is in-spec, but **not** functional. And there's no mention of what kind of tubes (if any) come with the unit, or if it even comes with a tube cage.

I paid less for mine on eBay, and it came with an excellent cage, and a full complement of very low-mileage NOS Amperex power tubes, plus the rest of the necessary little glass vacuum goodies... had it not popped a cap off the board while in transit, I'd be listening to it right now (but at least it's a very cheap and easy fix).

In short, I'd at least want more information before I committed to it, and some pictures wouldn't hurt-- but it seems to me that if you're patient, you can do better than what's listed here. I really would suggest cruising eBay, there are always a few up at any given time, and if you're canny with their search engine, sometimes you can get units that others might overlook.

Again, just my $.02... good luck, though!!

    Dave,
Another good source is to post WTB ads on various sites and usernets. You may be able to find someone local and bypass shipping (also you'll get to inspect the unit first). I paid a fair price for mine with someone local and it was in great working condition with Mullard tubes (which he said tested strong and they seem to have been working well since September/I don't own a tube tester, etc.). I did the SDS mod and there haven't been any fires yet. The chrome and lettering were a little worn but using the product 'Flitz' has been helping it's looks (the sound matters more to me anyway/I have the blasted thing sitting on an MDF board with a pillow underneath it). Anyway, keep looking and best of luck.

Lots of stuff on eBay right now re: The St70. Try audiogon.com too. When you're looking for this kind of amp, just shop, shop, shop. Same w/tubes. If you dedicate yourself a bit, you'll get a great specimine with better tubes in better shape ;)
