I'm not sure what these people are listening to. I could pass on the Bruce stuff, but Dylan's 66 tour is swamped with it and it's great!

I'd be curious on opinions on this as well. I'm on the fence about getting this one as I did pick up the 2-cd Legacy but this one is tempting and I can't seem to find a thread dedicated to it.

I think it is a great box and you get both versions of the film. All the concerts are there but it is very poor on the rehearsal material. I guess it depends on the price but I do not believe it is sold out so there maybe some good deals. I agree with the opinion of some people on this thread who believe the FTD Wonder of You disc is the best version of that show.

On many (though not all) of the songs on Live In Las Vegas disc 1, the keyboards are present.

That said, the overall mix is slanted towards telling a raw rock "n" roll story, pushing the vocals, drums and guitars to the forefront, with the keyboards and backing vocals more recessed.

Is this a deception? I'd argue not. Every person on stage would have heard a different balance of sound to each other (especially in the early days without an adequate monitor system), as would different sections of the audience.

There are any number of stories that a engineer can choose to tell with their mix without spiralling out of orbit.

And although its not a perfect mix, I do prefer the rollicking, careening, rollercoaster sound of this disc to the more anaemic and coldly analytical sound of many of Elvis's live releases.

Thanks. I have to two disc special edition of the film and the Legacy double disc, but the set looks pretty great. Presley's official site has it at $175.

Does anyone have a track listing for the studio set? There is only a link on the announcement which takes me to Apple Music and then notification that it is only available in he US store. Sigh.

Coincidentally, I was listening to The Wonder of You FTD this morning. It’s so good. Almost to the point where I’m annoyed by all the other live shows from that season. That said, the deluxe TTWII is pretty awesome. The sealed copy I bought was missing the rehearsals disc, which kind of sucked.

I found it for much cheaper on Discogs. It’s also still up on streaming sites, so it might be good to sample some of the shows to see if you like the mixes and if the differences between performances justifies the cost of the big set.

I’m all in on the huge Live 1969 box set. I just bought 36 CDs of live Dylan from 1966 and 14 CDs of live Dylan from 1975. Might as well add 11 CDs of live Elvis at his peak too! I haven’t been to a concert in nearly five years, so I can live vicariously through these shows. :)

I wonder if they're going to leave the profanity-laced studio comments "Hey Georgie... get your little ^*&(%^%$ over here!".

The big question is whether HDTracks or similar will have a non-compressed version (FLAC's instead of MP3's). Otherwise, I'll just stick with my boot***s which are essentially complete...

I strongly suspect (and hope) we'll see another deluxe box set in 2022 for the 50th anniversary of the On Tour shows. Those are some of the last multi-track live shows they hold in the vaults (other than some of the 1977 tapes) and would make for a very strong box set. After that, limiting the physical live releases for the FTD sets would be okay by me.

I'm not hearing the same thing. For the 1969 shows, Elvis is charged up and has a lot of nervous energy. He does not display any of the boredom that he would in later touring years. Plus, the monologue about his career was a planned part of the show... his way of reintroducing himself to the audience after a long break from playing live. He would shorten this segment considerably for the 1970 shows and then eliminate it altogether later on (as he really needed no reintroduction to audiences). The evidence of Elvis' conviction for these 1969 (and 1970) shows lies within the performance of the songs, where he clearly invests himself in every song. The only possible exception are the songs where he's interacting with the audience and kissing women, but again that's a planned part of the show.

There are none of the distractions that would be used in the later years to pad out the shows... JD dive bombs, long band introductions, songs sung by others (Kathy, Sherrill, JD), etc. And even the worst of that doesn't take hold until 1976 when the decline really accelerated.

Seek out the August 1970 shows if you want a great performance with a little less talking. He still talked and joked (especially before Hound Dog), but didn't carry on quite as much as he did for the 1969 shows.

elvishop Graceland offers every combo except the one I want.
The least they could do is offer the CD box-set and the LP in
a combo at a slight discount, but nope. You have to buy them
separately if you buy them from elvisshop. There's no discount
to any of their combo packages.

Yes, but he performs the songs in one fast rush. He's all sped up.
I don't know if it's amphetamines or what, but there is no timing
or sense of movements in the songs, just one rush and it's over.
It's one thing to commit yourself emotionally, another to put a
song through its paces. Elvis needed to slow himself down a bit.

That complaint having been lodged, I'm all in.

I've been away from the forum for a fews days so I missed out on grabbing this set from Amazon UK for £65 :realmad:, instead I've just preordered at £91.

Unless it comes back down, I'll probably cancel my order and just go with the new single show vinyl release instead. Matt Ross Spang's in your face mix on the RSD release is good to listen to as an alternate to Vic's mixes but given the choice I'll choose Vic's anytime.
