Again I have none of these book sets, but on here the cd actually looks from a quick glance to be quite interesting.
We have a series of 10 undubbed tracks, 8 impromptu live tracks and also, something that seems pretty interesting to me, in The Christmas Radio special from 1967.

It would be really interesting to me for someone who has, or is at least full bottle on this release to let us know if there is something special about the tracks that we have on here.
We know that Elvis's gospel album always were recorded in a pristine and beautiful way, just that Ftd ad up there makes me want to get this lol

Anyway, please give us the lowdown on this release guys.

    Cheer

    I'll Be Home For Christmas

Is this from the radio show?
Are we just looking at a few snippets of Elvis saying Christmas things and then a song being spun?
I have no idea, so please let us know.

I am guessing that this is a pretty clever Christmas promo on the radio.... Interesting when you consider that these days this probably wouldn't be allowed, or accepted.

Wow, I sadly haven’t been getting notifications for this thread... I love those Christmas and Easter radio shows. They’re nice to have to play every holiday. I take it the only source is an LP as the sound quality isn’t amazing.

Id like a mono box but would honestly love a complete singles set with the correct single mixes.

Fair question that I don't have the answer to. The initial 1955 RCA reissues of the Sun material have different matrices than the Gold Standard reissues.

In the wake of Phil Spector's death has Rolling Stone uploaded its lengthy 1969 interview with him. In the final third the conversation turns to Elvis, and Spector's comments (as expected) range between incisive and barmy.

    ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

What did you think of his television show?

They ruined it; you should have seen it before they edited it. I didn’t see the final version. What was originally done was sensational. How it ended up, I can’t tell you. I know they cut out three scenes that were unbelievable. I mean they cut out everything that was Elvis, really Elvis. They destroyed a lot of it, so I can’t tell you how the final version was. But I think he’s a sensation on stage.

Do you think he’s gonna come back?

Yeah, he’s got a hit now. I don’t know what it is, but it’s a hit. Oh, he should man. He is never gonna die. Somebody ought to cut an album of him singin’ the blues. You know there’s a strong belief — and judging from what I saw and heard at NBC, I believed it — that when he goes into a room with Colonel Parker, he’s one way, and when he comes out, he’s another way. You know, it’s possible Colonel Parker hypnotizes him. That’s the truth, too, and I can tell you six or seven people who believe it, too, who are not jive ass people. I mean, he actually changes. He’ll tell you “Yes, yes, yes,” and then he’ll go in that room and when he comes out it’s “No, no, no.” Now, nobody can make you like that. I wonder about that.

What has he got that has survived the worst recording career direction in history?

He’s a great singer. Gosh, he’s so great. You have no idea how great he is, really, you don’t. You have absolutely no comprehension — it’s absolutely impossible. I can’t tell you why he’s so great, but he is. He’s sensational. He can do anything with his voice. Whether he will or not is something else. He and Dylan — he and Dylan I would like to record. Elvis can make some masterful records and can do anything. He can sing any way you want him to, any way you tell him. Even Dion. Look at Dion. Even Dion came back. Anybody great can come back today. That’s what’s so good about it.

This is a pretty interesting set up here. We get the first two albums, a bunch of singles and outtakes and some sun sides, and from just a quick look at it, it seems like a pretty decent collection of the 55/56 material.

I'd be very interested what the folks on here think about it, because it seems to me like a good purchase for an Elvis newcomer, and who knows, perhaps some folks have wandered across this thread out of curiosity.

I am assuming we have pretty much covered all the songs at some point over the last thirty months.

    Cheers

Cd one starts of with the almost set in stone second song, and we have a somewhat out of breath Elvis, and he is in one of his more comedy oriented performances, or at least, so it seems.
In the second track, I feel like the band is even a little ragged, which is rare for me to think that.
Love me Tender comes in and we get one of Elvis's random lyric performances. We get a few mumbles, and I assume Elvis is laying out a few kisses.
Flicking forward to I'll Remember You, we have Elvis still goofing a little.
Flicking forward to How Great Thou Art, and on a quick listen, it seems as was generally the case, Elvis straightened himself up for the gospel track. It sort of makes me wonder if he was just completely bored with singing songs he felt little for, and it took something he believed in to get him back into it. The thing that surprises me about that is, in reality, Elvis could have got on stage and sung anything from his catalog, or from contemporary music and the crowd would have loved it.... I guess the more of these soundboards I hear, the more it makes me wonder about the song selection. Perhaps it was just the touring that bored him.... I don't know, it is just interesting listening to these and the rollercoaster of interest he seemed to have in the sets. Then again it could merely be the pill factor.

Anyway, give us your input on this set, or anything else that seems relevant about it.

    Cheers
    Mark

Elvis In Atlanta presents a typical run-of-the-mill, series of spring 1975 concerts. The piano is high in the soundboard mix. There is nothing else really to say about it other than the cover is nicely presented. For recordings from that time period, FTD's Dixieland Rocks (5/6, 5/7) is a superior release both in terms of sound quality and performance quality.

This is a great combo. It has a few outtakes. AND it has both of my favorites, Mystery Tran and My Baby Left Me. It is curious though they had outtakes but not the masters of I Was The One and I Want You I Need You I Love You. They could have improved it by including all 10 Sun sides though.

It's such a great album and so underrated.

My question is, just recently I was going through some stuff and found my album, "Gold Records, Vol.4" re-issue from '77 on the tan label.

I was about to put it back in the regular stack of LPs in the box. When I spotted a gold, not for sale demonstration seal, planted right on the back cover.

Any ideas and/or opinions if this album could be highly sought after ?

I also have a "Moody Blue" album (Blue vinyl) that has the same thing on the back.

Besides the take 2 nothing is different. Sounds great and flows well as an album. I love the cover too! I can’t help but think that quite a few great country songs were left off but oh well. It pairs nice with “Elvis Country”.

If it is a tan label, it is probably from 1976. Gold stamped promos don't generally demand much of a premium.
