I really hope something picks up the mantle and makes a more affordable UHD player with DVD A and SACD!

 

Sony now has out the 1100es udp player on Amazon for $599.
Plays SACD and dvd a.
They did it.

No auto Dolby Vision is a major deal breaker though !

 

Thanks. I suppose for $599, asking for a better looking player may be asking too much ...

 

You could always print a picture of the 205 and make a poster of it placing it in front of the Sony. Or better yet make a 3D model and cover the Sony with it .

 

Sony responded to a question on Amazon that it does NOT play DVD-A

Then Sony should correct the UBP-X1100ES product page as it states that it does indeed play DVD-Audio discs.

It DOES have Dolby Vision.

 

The Sony rep is wrong, I believe. The previous UBP-X players all supported DVD-A playback.

 

Yep ubp x800 plays them...but no analog outs...have to use hdmi

Mine sits in BR attached to tv as a blu ray player...barely use it

Have an oppo in main system using analog

 

I think it’s kind of understated in its looks. The x1000es upon which it appears to be based is an outstanding video player and very nice audio player through its analog outs—it has a mostly discrete analog stereo audio board with a short signal path.

 

The x1000ES plays DVD-A through its analog stereo outputs as well. That’s why I’d be surprised if the x1100ES did not.

I would assume multi-channel SACD playback using HDMI and stereo only with the analog output.

 

I have never used any HDMI connections. I now have a Yamaha universal player running the RCA or analog output into my stereo preamp. I have never owned a surround receiver or preamp.

 

Yes, but you have to manually engage it each time.

 

Re the new Sony machine. There are no photos of the rear and will it play flac and dsf files on a usb like the Oppo 103?

 

Sony do not appear to be importing the 1100ES to the UK. On US website but not UK. Obviously think British only buy £100-£200 players.

 

IIRC, the 1100 is coming out in Europe in the next few months.
