What is your favorite filmmaker or filmmaking team from each of these eras of cinema, based solely on their output during that era of cinema? Filmmakers includes both directors and scriptwriters.

I mean any of the following eras:
    1. Silent era 1906-1928
    2. Early talkies 1929-1938
    3. Golden era 1939-1954
    4. The Change 1955 - 1976
    5. Dawn of the modern era - rest of the 20th century

I do not think I know enough about the outputs of each of various filmmakers or filmmaking teams to have a favorite from multiple eras. So I just ask others.

  4. You omitted almost an entire century.

    Which century?

  7. The 19th.

1895-1926 would be the silent era.

You ommited two entire decades. 1910-1920.

I know the title reads 20th century but none of you dates accurately reflect that century.

Look, I was concerning the time that feature films have existed.

Sorry, I did make a mistake. The silent era should be 1906 to 1929. I wish I could edit that post.

I’ll play: for me, the 1940s are all about the European refugee filmmakers who ostensibly created Film Noir — Otto Preminger, Max Ophuls, Douglas Sirk, Billy Wilder, Fritz Lang; Edgar Ulmer, and Robert Siodmak. They successfully presented to Western audiences the darker side of human nature, with blondes, fedoras, Venetian blinds and double crossers all on display. Great drama!

Okay, so does anyone here have a favorite film maker or film making team from each of the eras.

But you need to specify the era in question.

The Change; Stanley Kubrick, Satyajit Ray, Ingmar Bergman, just to name a few. This is a pretty cool idea for discussion.
