What is your favorite guest appearance on a sitcom?

Mine off the top of my head is Tom Hanks' three appearances on Family Ties as Uncle Ned in "The Fugitive" Parts I and II, and "Say Uncle".

In the former, Tom's Uncle Ned character gets in trouble for stealing millions of dollars from the company he's working for to try and save people's jobs, and in "Say Uncle" the episode revolves around him being a huge and very obvious alcoholic.

Yes, they're both "Very Special" episodes but the reason I like them is because Tom is absolutely hilarious in both (he does the "funny drunk" bit really well and he's given a lot of very funny lines).

John Hamm's appearance on the live 20Rock springs to mind. He showed great comic timing.

I always think of Davey Jones on the Brady Bunch.

Oh great, now I'll have "Girl" stuck in my head. :)

  5. Anthrax on Married With Children, particularly for their acapella rendition of "Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb".

Billy Murray on Square Pegs. (Though it was not the Dvo episode - imagine if that was the same episode.)

  9. Not sure I get your meaning here. I mean, yes, Anthrax was indeed on the same episode as Anthrax. :)

Easy. Suzanne Pleshette in the series finale of "Newhart" as Emily from the "Bob Newhart Show". Generally considered the best series finale in history.......

Doesn't seem to be video, but this cameo on "Coach" made me laugh because it was subtle. Dick Van Dyke had no lines but it was a great sight gag.
    • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Luther (played by Jerry van Dyke) learns that he was adopted and ends up attending a reunion of his birth family. As he enters he complains to Hayden that there's no way he could be related to any of these people. An unnamed character (played by Dick van Dyke) chooses that moment to walk conspicuously across the set.
