This may be a random thread for this forum, but I love singing and also in front of people. My song choice is usually really poor but I did Mama by Genesis tonight and it felt awesome and it went over pretty well with my crowd of 15 people. Anybody else have a karaoke fave?

Edit: other songs I did tonight also include Sgt. Rock by XTC, Photograph by Def Leppard and Deep by Nine Inch Nails. :righton:

Only shallow by my bloody valentine. So easy to sing live although the crowd gets confused by the backing track a bit.

Rainbow Connection with an affected Kermit voice has earned me free shots and threats.

I can’t sing worth beans, so when it’s karaoke time I like to choose songs for others to sing, matching their vocal talents to the specific type of song.
(High notes, vocal range, melody, etc)

It helps me live out my inner Svengali.

I've drafted several answers to the question and I find it difficult without creating a very long list (I've done over 350 songs in 4 years. I'd get very bored if I were singing the same songs every week - I'd never make it as a touring musician).

It may be easiest to answer this question by answering what songs I have done the most:

    Allman Brothers - Whipping Post
    Badfinger - Day After Day
Beach Boys - Sail On Sailor
Beatles - Twist & Shout, Come Together, Back in the USSR, I am the Walrus, Taxman
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust, Heroes, Let's Dance
    Alice Cooper - School's Out
Cream - Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, I'm So Glad
    Free - All Right Now
Grand Funk - Some Kind of Wonderful
Jimi Hendrix - Manic Depression, Purple Haze
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Carole King - I Feel the Earth Move
    Mountain - Mississippi Queen
Iggy Pop - Lust for Life
Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil, Wild Horses, Gimme Shelter
    Small Faces - Tin Soldier
Talking Heads - Take Me To the River, Burning Down the House
    War - Low Rider
The Who - Behind Blue Eyes, My Generation, Substitute
    Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money
ZZ Top - Waitin' for the Bus

I'll have to check next time to see if the karaoke jockey has mbv's Only Shallow - I'd love doing that.

I’ve only done karaoke once. Chose ‘White Wedding’ by Billy Idol and knew, within seconds, what a brutal choice that had been.

Many years ago I was at a karaoke club and the usual inebriated suspects were going through their numbers with varying levels of success. Some were okay , some truly awful. Then thus young woman got on stage , very petite and nailed ' Love Will Tear Us Apart '. And when I say she nailed it , I mean she absolutely was on point with every nuance and growl. I could hardly believe it. She was that good.

I enjoy being surprised like that by a singer, especially with a song I love.

Heh. As soon as I read this I knew you were in the UK.
I wish I had a software recommendation for you, but I've only sung karaoke in bars. Otherwise, at home, I just practice singing along with the original.
