“king” is a great record, the times had changed around them and it got overlooked..

    .

Thread is for overlooked or under appreciated albums, not artists. And yes, the thread is from a US perspective. Portishead may have had a big impact in the UK but they are a cult act in the US at best. And these albums are definitely overlooked by music fans under 35. Trust me.

At least half the album is fantastic. It’s so strange that this was the album that almost broke them in the States as Love Spreads got decent airplay on alternative radio. Their debut never broke out over here.

Without a doubt. I still consider Native Son and Down in the Shacks... to be essential college alternative albums. Sadly, they are mostly forgotten.

The Last Splash, Trompe Le Monde and Angel Dust - but not sure how overlooked they are.

My choice would be this extremely overlooked LP:

Someone earlier mentioned circa by Mary’s Danish…I’d throw American Standard in the ring as well. Both very underrated records

    ~"Trompe Le Monde"- The Pixies

    ...from the list...

    Personally... my top 11...

... I'll start with a trio from the lowest selling band on my list...

    The Mekons:
    ~"Curse Of The Mekons"
    ~"I ❤ Mekons"
    ~"Retreat From Memphis"

... all 3 Wilco albums from that decade...
    ~"A.M."
    ~"Being There"
    ~"Summerteeth"

... and finally, everything by Yo La Tengo from that decade...
    ~"Fakebook"
    ~"May I Sing With Me"
    ~"Painful"
    ~"Electr-O-Pura"
~"I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One"

One of the most overlooked albums of the 90s is Kylie Minogue's "Impossible Princess."

That is such a great album, although I love them all. Memories of getting absolutely baked to that one particular summer...

    Such a shame what happened.

Most overlooked and best album of the 90s. Cutler/Previn's unreleased follow-up, Annetenna, is even better.

I have to put in Dig, by I Mother Earth. The song So Gently We Go was my intro to it. Nice and mellow but boy does the rest of the album rock!

Someone mentioned P.M. Dawn's Jesus Wept in an earlier post, but instead I'll go with their follow-up, Dearest Christian... (1998). For me it's one of the great lost '90s albums.

Another is the disco classic Elegant Slumming by M People. Just one great tune after another.

(The P.M. Dawn is definitely the more overlooked, in case anyone was wondering. :))

RECOVERING THE SATELLITES by Counting Crows is criminally overlooked. I didn't discover it until maybe 20 years after release b/c I was overloaded with Counting Crows' music after August & Everything After. But I gave it a listen about 5-6 years ago and I have to say it is incredible. I listen to it regularly ever since.
