This is the cover of a book I was rereading. I thought it was pretty interesting. Puget Sound on the Pacific Coast, 1870, by Albert Bierstadt. Interestingly enough, Bierstadt had never visited the Pacific coast, he painted from written descriptions of the area.

I'm a big fan of Maria Helena Viera da Silva. This might be my favourite of hers.

I also really like a guy called Richard Thorn, mainly for the way he captures shadows and water.

Favourite painting is a tough one! Saw this one though at the National Gallery in London last year and was quite taken in by it.Guess it makes one reflect on the different stages of life

The Vatican Museum is fantastic. A wealth of wonderful art across a surprisingly broad spectrum. When we visited, the Sistine Chapel (as well as the corridors leading to it) was crammed with tourists, while you could stroll around the other galleries at your leisure. Yes, the Sistine Chapel is lovely, and rightly famous, but so many folk choose to miss out on the other treasures right under their noses.
