Sheesh. I had no idea he ever appeared on any US sticoms (other than maybe the Simpsons - didn't Homer once go to a Who concert or something?)

Yeah the episode was called Tales From The Who, I mean Tale of Two Springfields. Possibly photoshopped. :)

Ah yes. Now that I see that I think either that or a similar image was on the cover of TV GUIDE or mag like that at the time, staring out at me from the racks as I stood in line in a supermarket so I bought the issue and cut out the image - what the heck did I do with it? Might have put it in a CD....have to look around...

Before the Beatles, 51 years ago today, The Who performed the 2nd of two dates on a rooftop of the swimming change building in Wedgewood Village Amusement Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 23rd & 24th, 1968.

A day late and a dollar short.
On this date 52 years ago, The Who performed at Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on August 31, 1967.The band played two shows, 6:30pm and 9:00pm on this night. Along with the usual summer lineup with Blues Magoos and Herman's Hermits, also on the bill were The Choir, a local Ohio group who later became The Raspberries. I believe forum member Bill attended at least one of these shows.

Pete backstage with The Choir guitarist Wally Bryson

The Choir, a local Ohio group who later became The Raspberries. Choir guitarist Wally Bryson said: "That night we played with the Who at Public Hall, Pete Townshend taught me to play the intro to 'Substitute' on the double neck guitar, so I was the only guy in town who knew how to play it right. I was in awe because I'd been a fan of the Who since day one. And it was truly amazing to watch and hear Townshend play guitar."

I presume that this is just stage pyrotechnics and not Pete's amp giving up?

There was a story behind this smash. Just out of the camera's view to the right of John's front foot was this:

(I think its name was Boris)

You can likely count on one hand, the amount of times Entwistle smashed his bass guitar. I am only aware of 4.

John’s estate sale hade one of his custom Alembic basses that he smashed for sale. Bob Pridden had the stage hands gather as many pieces as possible then had them artistically mounted. He gave the framed result back to John.

Johns estate sale also included the framed High Numbers poster that he walks past when he’s descending the stairs of his mansion in “The Kids Are Alright.” Sigh, I wish I had the cash when his wife was selling everything to pay his tax debts.

I always wanted to see/hear evidence of this. Kind of odd to see. 1966/67 was a unique time for them.

Edit, the smashed bass was a Warwick/Modulus graphite-necked Buzzards that was smashed on stage and framed by Bob Pridden for John as a Christmas gift.
