For me the funniest SNL skits tended to be the ones where one cast member is "breaking". Fallon was probably the worst at this, but it happened to many of them. Consequently the original Matt Foley skit is made that much funnier because Spade and Applegate are doing everything in their power not to laugh. Another great example of this is the previously mentioned "Debbie Downer: Disney World", which absolutely deserves another look:

I don't know why, but I've always been mesmerized by the Molly Shannon/Will Ferrell "Airport Bar Blind Date" sketch. It's not really funny so much as it is just awkward and weird. It's feels like it has no script at all (which it probably doesn't). It almost has a "The Office" feel, even though it predates both versions it.

"Now, I’d like to speak about the subject of a certain Mick Jagger – of the Rolling Stones. And I’m going to talk about the song he sang — a song in which he sings these very words: “Black girls – just want to have sex – all night long.”

Now, Mr. Jagger, there is only one question I want to ask you — Jaggs. And you better have the answer, man, you better have the answer, since you have besmirched the character of black women. Therefore, here is my question, Jaggs.

Where are all of these black broads, man? Hey, like, where ARE they, baby? You got any phone numbers for me, baby? Please send ’em to me. Thank you." --- Garret Morris on Weekend Update

That was really funny! I was busting up!
Obviously, due to the lack of audience response, Perhaps this was performed long after the audience remembered the original show.

In my estimation, the Steve Martin character suddenly became the personality of the typical 80s yuppie male.
And it was the same with Moon Zappa‘s “Valley Girl”. It wasn’t funny anymore because most girls actually became and spoke like that.

Anything with Bill Hader. I adore Bill Hader. His Dateline parody is my favorite:

Someone mentioned the late 80's, early 90's were a kind of sweet spot.

Carvey and Hartman, man. Carvey and Hartman.

Carvey with Jon Lovitz as Tommy LaSorda, a disturbingly accurate take, and Mike Schmidt as himself in George Will's Sports Machine.

    "Throw the ball, George."
    "Yeah! Throw the ball, George!"

Carvey as Tom Brokaw "Pre-tapes." Some may remember Brokaw late in his career having summer vacation issues. Carvey's take, hilarious. The impression alarmingly spot-on, unlike his still marvellous GHWB.

"Gerald Ford eaten by wolves today.

    He was delicious.

    ...really? Really?"

    "Just read the cards, Tom."

    "Alright, alright. Alright."

    Simmer down now!

Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest, security guards completing one another's improbable sentences

Jon Lovitz: You're through! You're finished! You'll never work in this town again!
Phil Hartman: What's the word on the street? Give it to me straight!

Phil Hartman as Clinton: I did NOT have snacks with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky!

Two of my favorites are William Shatner at a Star Trek convention; and the "revised" ending to "It's A Wonderful Life."

Yep. Some of the best skits are the sports-related ones, especially about the Olympics.

Who can forget the All-Drug Olympics Sketch during Weekend Update?

Also, the Nancy Kerrigan and Chris Farley olympic pairs skating was hilarious.

And for football, the short with Peyton Manning doing a United Way commercial with a bunch of kids was hilarious.
