All fab opening tracks...but pick one.

Something to consider besides which one you prefer is how the track fits the overall vibe of the album.

Taking this into account, I'm going with ' Taxman'
The only Harrison song to ever usher in a Beatles album, one of his best.

As for the poll: tough one. Was almost going for Drive My Car, but Come Together is just a masterful opening track.

Hard call, but probably Magical Mystery Tour... Always loved the song, and it was probably one of the first latter day Beatles tracks to grab me.

I love it, the bridge is one of the best I've heard and Macca's high harmonies are terrific.

Lots of fave tracks to choose from there. I've also plumped for Magical Mystery Tour. Tough choice though.

I can't think a of a better way to start a thirty track double album then a Beach Boys pastiche but swapping for Russia for California. Easily one of their most infectious songs.

Taxman. Silver goes to It Won't Be Long, bronze to Back in the U.S.S.R. But all the intro songs would make a pretty cracking album if properly sequenced. Same goes for the closing numbers.

On second thoughts this is a tough choice, but my instinct goes with It Won't Be Long!

"I Saw Her Standing There" - no contest for me. It encapsulates the youthful frenetic energy that would take over an unsuspecting worldwide audience and forever change it. I personally still get goosebumps, the biggest smile on my face and can't sit still whenever I hear it after all these years.

It is a total "Release the Kraken" moment from the band from which most people will never recover....thank goodness!

No Reply. It's a first track that I doubt any other beat band could have pulled off. The subject, the mood, it's not a 'get ready to have fun' kind of song. Plus it starts with just John's voice.

Somewhat surprising that 'No Reply' is leading the pack considering that its parent album is poorly thought of overall here.

    as I had predicted

My general (vague) impression from a perspective of time-worn subconscious rendering is that AHDN is the nearly-undisputed early Beatles showcase of songwriting/ recording/
ensemble musicianship―a virtually (only?) flawless LP.

With you on the vibe that Taxman generates. Makes a statement that this album is going to be different.
Strangely, though, my first copy had Good Day Sunshine as the opening track. It was a UK cassette version. So it was weird when I found out that was not how the album was mean't to start!

To me it has to be "I Saw Her Standing There". What a great idea of John to do it live in 1974. He really proved his respect and love for Paul, after those dark years 1970-1971.
