Watching HBO’s The Pacific ( ...again ).
What’s folks preference
Band Of Brothers or The Pacific?
I LOVED Band of Brothers and have enjoyed watching it multiple times over the years.
I did not like The Pacific at all and only watched it once, could barely get through it.
Originally I liked Band of Brothers better and also only watched The Pacific once and didn't think it was close to BoB quality. But since then I have been reading Ian Toll's trilogy of the Pacific War and started to rewatch The Pacific. I think having a better historical background on the Pacific War has improved my enjoyment of The Pacific. I'm up to episode 4 and find it quite good. Will have to re watch BoB to have a fresh evaluation of the two series.
More bloody, violent.
I started watching Narcos last week thx to the suggestions up here.
It is pretty good, interesting stuff, well done true-crime saga. Has some tangential life stuff in there for me as well because one of my brothers-in-law back in the late 70's/early 80's got involved in that world of drug trafficking via South America. Shocked the hell out of me when I found out what he was up to back then (the movie Blow starring Johnny Depp reminds me very much of what he was involved in). Did not turn out well for him in the end sad to say but was inevitable when you get on that road. He did not die a violent death but there was the threat of that at one time. Cocaine as a drug is extremely evil stuff - it destroyed him as I'm sure it has destroyed many other lives as well. Thinking back now, 40 years later (sheesh) I wish I had recorded some of his stories/tales of what he & his friends did setting up their smuggling network, turned them into a book or something. Towards the end though when he became an addict it was more of a priority/intervention trying to just save his life/talk some sense into him as his marriage, business, everything was falling apart, and "the law" moved in on him eventually which was not fun....quite a long story/mess....but I digress....
Liked Season 3 best.
Watched the first two seasons, a tad boring. But thx for suggestion.
I'm on S2 now, almost done that one. The way things are going I am surprised there was a S3, don't tell me but I am going to assume S3 is more about the other narcos & los pepes than Pablo....
Balthazar, a French crime drama title character is a non-PC forensic examiner with a sense of humor. Series one (6 episodes) is out, series two (10 episodes) out in October. Great cast, great scenery and cinematography. A warning: they don't cutaway from the autopsy scenes. On Acorn, maybe some other services as well.
Best Pablo imo was Benicio Del Torro Escobar
Both are great but I have to give the nod to Band Of Brothers.
I read a lot of history, but realize I am relatively poor on that history. What's your opinion of Toll's books?
Just finished watching a Steven Spielberg mini series ‘Into The West .”... starts off with pioneering in the early America, discovering California.. Josh Brolin stars.. but basically a history of the America native.
Back Mirror : White Christmas.
Bought this when I bought all the BM series.. dvds ..but forgot to watch this single episode disc. Probably the best thing Jon Hamm’s been involved with outside Mad Men.
Two of Game Of Thrones actors also in it.
I would say his writing style is good but not great. He has an eye for detail and adds interesting facts about some well known events. I'm reading the first volume over again and his details on the Doolittle Raid (where I'm at now) are interesting and varied. I really like the fact that he gives the Japanese view of events as well as the American/Allied perspective.
Got Prison Break 1-4
Seen a couple of episodes on tv early 2000s.
Fast paced series ala 24/Homeland. Much better than I remembered.
I just tore through all three seasons of The Deuce, and oh my god is it good.
The porn Wire.
I think that was mentioned in this thread earlier, or I read about it somewhere, was interested in checking it out but got sidetracked as usual and 4got all about it. Is the 3rd season the end or is there one more season?
"RECTIFY" - Strong recommendation
My understanding is that it was written to be three seasons only. It's absolutely complete as-is.
Thanks. I prefer to dive into new shows (binge watch) after their run is over so as not have to wait another year (or more) to see the next season (after which I find I have to rewatch past seasons to even remember all the background).
Ha! Watching Prison Break noticed BB Charles Baker aka Skinny Pete.
Hamm is hilarious in a few episodes of 30 Rock.
