The new song isn't bad. But it isn't great. And it's a long ways from "Make Me Smile"......even "Hard Habit To Break".
Cetera, Champlin, and yes, even Scheff are rolling in their graves. I know they ain’t dead, just an expression.
From what I can gather ..., and note that I could be wrong? ... The new album will be called Chicago XXXVIII and it will be released sometime in June. As for that whimpy new single, it was co written by Robert Lamm and the new Peter Cetera soundalike, Neil Donell. Rumor has it that Jim Peterik (The Ides Of March & Survivor) is heavily involved with the project which actually started off as another Robert Lamm solo album, but eventually bloomed into a new Chicago album instead (Naturally, why make hundreds when you could make thousands? Just kidding Robert, you know I love 'ya man!) Here is another track (possibly NOT from the new album, but should be?), which is actually VERY GOOD and does have potential, which has Neil Donell kind of "trading lead vocals" with Jim Peterik.
It’s not bad. At first I thought Jason Scheff had returned and was singing lead. Sounds like the Chicago 18/19 era which I liked.
It’s better than the godawful new Journey song at least. It sounds like a Christmas carol. But I do wonder why these old guys falsetto or auto tune high parts in the studio when they have no chance of pulling it off live. Just sing sensibly already.
Didn't know Cetera was still in the group.... I thought Jason Scheff held his own. But this is bordering on ridiculous copying of Cetera's singing. The song otherwise is pretty decent I think. I like it much better than anything they've released since after Chicago 19.
BTW, they did release singles from the last Christmas album (which was mostly band-written), so this is only the first single in three years.
Best to focus IMHO on this cover band from Russia that is far better than the original band. Listen to this and tell me they don't nail it!
