Release date is 6 October, and there are two versions: 3 CD http://www.hmv.co.jp/artist_Frank-Zappa ... 77_8167572 and Costume Box Set (despite description, this is likely to be the complete set) http://www.hmv.co.jp/artist_Frank-Zappa ... et_8167573 _________________ FRANK TALK: THE INSIDE STORIES OF ZAPPA’S OTHER PEOPLE - new book, available now! www.idiotbastard.com edit: Anyone here read Japanese?
¥18,241 is $208 CDN. Wow that's a big chunk of change. Unless it really comes with a costume, which would be hilarious.
I dooooon't knoooowwww.... When I read 'costume', I think 'comes with crap you don't need' to jack-up the price!
A member of the "Zappa Forum" did the 'yen conversion' on "THE BIG ONE": He wrote: According to the price at 18,241 Yen on that websight, it converts to around $160 US. Not a bad price if the set is the entire run at about 18 hours of music or whatever it was that Adrian Belew Tweeted about writing the notes for. Looking forward to this one!
I've been 'saving up'..... I was gonna try and catch a special People Like Us show on 'Frisco, but I might skip it for this!
Can you guys tell me in a nutshell what this release is about (and why so exciting, for a well-documented '77 tour)? I click on those links above and see nothing clear. And I don't read Japanese...
Supposedly it will include all six NYC shows, and there will be a 3 disc "reduction". I wouldn't say this tour is "well documented", as nothing has been released from it beyond NYC. Bootleg-wise, there are no soundboards in circulation and only one or two passable audience tapes.
True. However, there should be some excellent stuff in this set (like the instrumental "Conehead" and the long version of "Wild Love") that has never made any previous official release. And of course, if the set sells well it would likely lead to other, possibly more exciting "complete" releases.
In that case, would it be madness to hope that we have a Bluray of the movie included in the Deluxe version ?
If anything prevents me from getting this, that would be it. The unique stuff @pbuzby noted sounds intriguing, however. Not at all. I think it is more likely with Ahmet in charge, but much of that will depend on the relations with Eagle Rock.
Think this will be a domestic releases (both regular and deluxe versions) and perhaps HMV just happen to get the scoop on it first?
Hopefully this one will be better though, as they received a lot of complaints about the mix of HO. (Patrick O'Hearn is barely audible.)
My initial instinct is BUY BUY BUY, but yeah, I'm starting to wonder how much more of this late 70s stuff I really need at this point. This release might lean into overkill territory for me.
