On the Canadian version of The Free Story Travelling Man is only 3:25 in length and Andy Fraser is quoted as being the producer.
All those years ago, pic probably in Sounds. There was an article on Koss. When I get a chance and think again I might scan it for you. How do I upload the photo from my phones sd card?
And you don't remember what labels the one you had used? The copies I have (UK and Japan) use the special design with the large numbers, and the German copy with those labes have the shorter running time, so all this would suggest that the one with pink rims is the earlier one. But then again labels and pressings don't necessarily follow each other and these could be mixed up any which way. These later pressings give the 4:15 timing on the label, which must be wrong, so that is no indication then: Free - The Free Story Free - The Free Story The inner sleeve says "Travellin' Man" is produced by Andy Fraser, and this must refer to the Toby version (Free At Last has a production credit to the whole band), I guess they didn't bother to redo those, and this credit is carried over to the CDs as well.
Can't help, I'm afraid, but these sites I use for grabbing cover art have images of the early pressings if that helps you: Tons Of Sobs ILPS 9089 – Free Vinyl Album: Free - Tons Of Sobs (1968) Free ILPS 9104 – Free Vinyl Album: Free - Free (1969) Fire And Water ILPS 9120 – Free Vinyl Album: Free - Fire And Water (1970)
Oh, so that would mean later German pressings continued to use the Toby recording then. Maybe the two label variations I linked with the 4:15 timing are correct then...? I guess the matrix number is the only way to know.
Okay, one last time. http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o705/novapub/Koss plus/Dick the Firemen_optimized_zpsbakndyiy.jpg http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o705/novapub/Koss plus/Koss and Bad Co pic LA 001_optimized_zpsyuilqyc9.jpg
Thanks for the nice links. I seem to recall there was an authoritative manuscript (or book?) on Island Records but even that tomb could not provide a definitive answer.
No, I am referring back to my earlier post, talking only about German pressings (as those have the Toby track). (I do mention I have UK and Japan pressings and they both have the specially designed labels, black with large white numbers.)
Well, there seems to be German pressings with pink rim labels, as well as, like I linked to above, palm tree and (what blackdograilroad calls) "night & day" labels.
Quick question relating to Bad Company. Who played the keyboards at their live shows in 1974? I tried searching with no joy. Re Free album covers. The recent vinyl box set uses the German gatefold cover for Highway. Presumably the stand alone reissue does as well.
Paul Rodgers, of course. My vinyl copy of Stuff that Duck from Lancaster 74 just credits the four of them.
Thanks I never really think of using YouTube. I tried looking at some photos from Charlton 1974 (I went but was not near the stage and cannot remember all the details - a long hard day - there really is not much that is pleasant about the average rock fan in the UK in 1974 and that was before Sham 69!).
How about the 1976 Albuquerque concert does anyone have that show, I know it was floating around at one time and I believe was slated for official release many years ago.
Yes thanks have it on a couple of cdrs. Not bad quality overall. I am lucky as I was buying a lot of that Angel Air (where the artist has a voice) for Mott The Hoople so picked up the Albuquerque show.
