From which artists would you buy their entire discography? This question meaning every album in the catalog is worth owning. I'll go first - Joy Division, Nirvana, The Who, Steely Dan

    So many...most Jazz artists...to name a few:

    Ellington
    Mingus
    Evans
    Sonny Clark
    Coltrane
    Blakey
    Clifford Brown

It's easier to pick and choose with rock artists. Hell, I don't even want all the Zappa releases and I LOVE Zappa.

I know exactly what you mean. Do you actually own an entire discography of any artist?

Depends on "complete." Just regular album issues or compilations, compilations for just one non album track, singles and b-sides, bootlegs.
Nobody for the latter. Bands with tiny discographies for the former.

At one time I owned every Miles Davis album (on CD). All the metal boxed sets, Live at Montreux.... everything

Worth owning isn't really a high bar to clear.

    The Beatles
    The Police
    King Crimson

Wow, I have no desire to own anything by 2 out of 4 on your list. Different strokes for different folks!

There's this guy on YouTube who reviews artist's discographies. It's unbelievable how many CDs this guy has. He has every album by every artist it seems.

    Minor Threat...

I'm sure I do, but even among bands I love I generally don't have everything.

I really can't think of anyone. There's always an nonessential retrospective live album or some previously unreleased outtakes that I don't feel inclined to buy, even though I would buy all the original studio & live albums from a few artists, such as Neu!, Kraftwerk, Joy Division, The Stooges.

I don't like Nirvana or The Who. I had all the Joy Division stuff on vinyl back in the day. Steely Dan is must have up to Gaucho, but I can live without the later two.

I'm struggling to think of anyone where I could vouch for the full discography. Even really short ones, like the Sex Pistols for example, still have some clunkers.

  21. I have a disease called "completisitis" -I must own complete catalogs from a certain few bands, even when their catalog includes several duds. Some examples:
    Hawkwind
    Big Country
    Pink Floyd

    I need help.

I have a lot of complete (regular) discographies. I don't do compiles.

As to whether they are worth owning is really very subjective, and although some I have I would say no, not really, most I am glad to have them.
