They should let fans submit choices for vault shows to the website and then tally them up to help decide what to release next.
I should have specified that he is picky about the performance especially his. Not sure he cares about the mixing and mastering. According to Bill Wyman's 2nd book Mick wanted to rerecord all the vocals for one of there later live releases in studio.
If I remeber correctly that was Mick's take when asked in an interview about old shows. He said he does not look back. I thought I remember Keef saying he just does not have the time.
Springsteen’s not cranking out soundboard shows. He’s only put out a few. Most of what he has put out are from multitracks mixed down to stereo. Two entirely different things.
Unless he now thinks that that is simply good enough for most of their market and what they play it on these days?
The Springsteen 77 shows he released may not be the best sounding releases but, they do sound pretty good to my ears.
So we get the extremes of Mick (who can't be bothered to care about the past), Bruce (who sloughs off the job to someone else), or Page (such a perfectionist that he spends YEARS fiddling about and then doesn't release a damn thing!)
I don't think it matters if the job is given to someone else as long as the outcome is positive. Exhibit A: The Dylan Bootleg Series Having said that, the involvement of Neil Young and Ian Anderson (with Jethro Tull) in their respective back catalogues has produced excellent results also.
I love the springsteen archive series’ monthly release schedule- but I’d much rather have him do a series like the stones. Mixed to (mostly?) perfection. I believe Clearmountain is responsible for the mixing in the stones series?
I believe it's Sam Wheat. He also mixed the video portion of the LA Forum '75 show. The CD/vinyl was from a different (better) show, and that show was mixed by Clearmountain.
this is the way to do it! yes! as we all know... artists are THE WORST judges of their own material. the fans know best!
