Yup... I'll be here, chatting with you all about this every week.
As you all know, wife-y and I just got on the "GOT"-train a few months ago.
BUT, I wonder; will the popularity of the show make the show-runners 'cut back' on the "Skin-amax"-style soft-porn and the cursing??

    I hope not......

For those of you jumping on the HBONow train, I hope your luck at streaming the show in a timely manner goes better than my HBOGo experience from the last season or two. Invariably, if I tried to stream the show anytime on Sunday evening after it was released, it wouldn't stream due to insufficient server/bandwidth infrastructure on HBO's end. This was not an isolated issue on my part either, believe me. Bloomberg even did a story on it last Spring:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/article...ur-game-of-thrones-streaming-woes-dont-matter

Unless HBO has decided to amp up their services over the last several months, be prepared for disappointment if you expect to watch the show the same evening it airs.

Most of the time I had to wait until at least Monday or Tuesday night before things had calmed down enough to be able to watch it successfully.

    Just a heads-up!

It will be interesting to see who sings I Will Survive this season since many of my favorites are already 6 under.

I usually can guess who is safe, but there's always the possibility of a shocker.

My favorite plot arc is around Aria Stark - I have high hopes for whatever it is that she gets up to :)

I'm curious how this thread will remain spoiler-free since everyone is planning on watching it.

I see no problem with it...we discuss each weeks show after it's over...it's fun discussing what has happened and guessing what may happen in future episodes.

But when do we discuss each episode? Not everyone is going to watch it as soon as it airs.

I think discussions about the episode are fair game the moment the episode has aired. If someone's watching it after it has initially aired, then that person shouldn't come into this thread until he's watched it.

Maybe the thread should read "book spoiler free"?

I think that's what Michael meant. Though at this point, there are no book spoilers, are there? Hasn't the show moved past the storyline in the book for most of the main characters?

Discussing the episode as soon as its aired is fair game, imo. It's what I plan to do.

It's called self control. I never get it when people come into a thread about a movie or TV show and expect everyone else to not discuss it.

No, not by a long shot - by my count, the series has only more or less caught up with two main (i.e., point of view) characters, one of whom will not feature in this season at all. And Martin has additionally released and/or publicly read a lot of material from the upcoming book.

Being on the west coast, I'm totally used to having to avoid spoilers and any discussion threads/tweets/reviews from about 6PM to whenever I actually get to watch the episode.

The show is airing here the same time it airs in the US. I don't think that's ever happened here before.

Nope, there are probably plenty of book spoilers. The last season covered it up to the end of book 3 (out of 5 currently published), more or less. As noted above by Karsten, only for 2 characters has the TV series caught up with the storylines from books 4 & 5. (Apparently, as I haven't read books 4 & 5 yet).

Okay, my mistake. I'm not a reader. Not of these, anyway. But I thought when I saw GRRM on a talk show about a month ago he made a point of saying that for the upcoming season readers have nothing over non-readers and can't know what is about to happen. I thought that he meant the show had caught up with him, but maybe he just means it diverges from his writing to the point that readers don't know what is going to happen. He knows what happens in the show, obviously, so would know if it was still following what he had put ou t so far. Or maybe i just misunderstood him completely. ;)

That's what I do. I read the thread after I've watched the episode.
