And for those who want to relive it, the entire series will be out in 4K HDR Blu-ray in a few months... The good news is "The Long Night" episode will be brighter in this version. Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection 4K Blu-ray Release Date November 3, 2020 My guess is that it will be north of $200, which is not that bad for roughly 70 hours of shows plus a lot of extra bits.
Now up for pre-order at $209.99 on Amazon.com, or $239.99 for the steelbook exclusives at Best Buy. All I can say is that this had better get a UK release....
Steelbook ? Hope they don’t put the discs on top of each other. Last season GOT Blu Ray steelbook did this tricky ( and worrying )prying them apart.
Blu Ray and even DVD season boxes are better packaging. Guess if you don’t have the series the 4K is a good bet.
For the last 8 years friends and coworkers have been walking up to me and saying, "Your into Game of Thrones aren't you? That's the kind of thing you'd get into." I'd tell them, "I work 120/week in the oilfield... I don't have time for any of that." When I was laid off a few months ago... as the were escorting me to the door I shouted, "I FINALLY HAVE THE TIME TO WATCH GAME OF THRONES!" Everyone busted out laughing like it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. Maybe I'll get this set and watch it on my laptop...
To answer my own concerns...the steelbook box has already been listed (and already sold out!) at Zavvi.co.uk. Although I note in the photos on the UK site that we don't appear to be getting the digital codes included that out American cousins are receiving - just the 4K discs. Grrrr...... Actually, on that point - if I were to import a 4K box from the States, does anyone happen to know if the codes would work for UK viewers?
Finally got around to watching the final season. Not much intrigue, not very satisfying, and too much blood and guts for my tastes.
I didn't know they used 4K cameras for GameOf Thrones,I thought 3.2K was the highest resolution cameras they used. But what about the final DI? Are these 2K or have any seasons finished to 4K? As far as I know the final season was finish to 2K, so the UHD BD is an upscale. I'm just curious about this as I've seen mediocre looking native 4K material (Independence Day Resurgence) and great looking 2K upscales as Prometheus or Alien Covenant.
I think the final finish was done in 4K over at Chainsaw by Joe Finley. Insiders at the company told me they've been doing it in 4K all along because of Warner Bros.' involvement. I think it's fair to say every major show done in the last 10 years has considered a 4K finish to "future-proof" the show, even if it's shot in HD, 2K, 3.2K, 4K, or whatever. The trick is they do a Dolby Vision (or HDR) final version, and they figure that will attract some attention and some additional viewers in streaming and possibly 4K Blu-ray on down the road. Prometheus was shot in 5K on a Red Epic: The ASC -- American Cinematographer: Ancient Aliens but the trick there is I think all the VFX were done in 2K. It would take some work, but they could "in theory" go back to the camera files and rebuild the entire film from scratch in true 4K. Since it was somewhat of a box office disappointment (cost $130M/made $400M), my guess is they would be reluctant to go to the trouble, but I've been surprised before.
This show will be my example, for years to come, of why I never listen to the mob. During its run, more than a few people told me I had to watch it, it was the greatest show in the history of the universe, everything about it was good, nothing was bad, it lifted their souls. I had HBO at the time, so I could have. Then the show ended and everyone said it was the worst show in the history of the universe, everything about it was bad, nothing was good, it ruined their faith in humanity.
T The first four seasons were certainly among the best TV shows I have seen in my life. But then I never watched too much television... After that it went downhill a bit, but was still entertaining.
Now that we know she's got some vocal chops, somebody somewhere in this world had got to get her to dress up like Dani one last time, to sing "Fire" by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown!!! Maybe with a calendar of 2020 burning up behind her!
Do you really think that even sewason 1 that used HDCam SR gt a 4K finish? It looks to me great tome on UHD BD anyway. I'm not obsessed with numbers and more with the way it was done. You know better than me that you can use the best equipment but a bad lightning or an unprofessional DP will ruin all the work, regardless of how expensive is the equipment you've used. For me the human factor, artistry, professionality and good criteria are more important than the K's of the equipment you're using.
