Not Ringo coloured vinyl reissues. Even the most disturbing individuals wouldn't dare buy those.

I wouldn’t say that. All the Macca III/IV/V madness, for example. Or coloured vinyl by anyone.
Or RSD stuff.. And so on ;)

That logic is not out of the realm of possibility. The argument could be made that Paul intended to ride on the Anthology coattails with Flaming Pie. It certainly seemed to sell well being kept from number one only by the Spice Girls.

At the time, Paul noted how EMI was not asking for an LP, but he was done this one — and it was inspired by Anthology in going back to Beatles-like production.
MPL (or Paul and Linda) definitely must have thought it would be a good idea to ride in after Anthology; either way, the press would have made the connection but the timing was right (as was Ringo's excellent Vertical Man).

As for the Spice Girls, what was interesting about the whole affair was the way in which EMI wanted to focus on Spice Girls and not Paul McCartney.
MPL put together the promotional cycle for Flaming Pie, and the word of mouth along with that helped the album tremendously.
To me, had Linda not been so sick afterwards, I think that would have hastened his departure from EMI. He clearly was not happy about the promotion.

I've just discovered All Things Must Pass - Early Takes (don't yell at me...better late than never, right?).

I have a random question. Why is the song called Awaiting On You All but in the early take version George calls it Awaiting For You All? Is there a story behind that? Trivial, yes, but these are the things I ponder while lying awake at 3am. Also, is George having a bit of a cheeky go at John?

I expect it's just that "On You All" scans better.

Good question, but by the way: this take on Early Takes is really outstanding. My favorite version of my favorite solo-Harrison song.

So does Early Takes Volume 2 fall into the "eventually" or "never" category? A decision needs to be made... ;)
