It would make sense if he had it once and built up some antibodies, wouldn't it? I'm no doctor and am also not a scientist. Best wishes for him. What a b***h to get it twice!

Yeah, that's just bad luck. I've enjoyed his videos and wish him the very best. I've only known three or four people who have gotten this virus. All recovered quickly w/o any side effects.

Yes, but there are people becoming reinfected by variants, which now account for the largest percentage of Covid cases in many countries. Hospitals now have to keep (or try) Covid patients separate by virus type.

I've heard it reported from a number of sources that the Pfizer vaccine seems to provide the same protection from these variants as the original strain. I've been fully vaccinated since last month with Pfizer.

I've had two shots of Moderna. I wonder how long they will last. It's almost like Franz Kafka wrote these last years.

There are breakthrough infections, variants or no, among the previously infected or among the vaccinated. But it's a relatively very small number, and in a high majority of those breakthrough case infections the incidences of serious illness and death even from variant infection among the mRNA-vaccine vaccinated, is low. It's all preliminary data in a sense, because no one has been vaccinated for more than six months or so. And of course viruses are always mutating. But the m-RNA vaccines so far seem to be effective against transmission of even the variants, and very effective against serious illness even from variants. The breakthrough infections and these second infections shock us because we don't expect it, but also because they're unusual, not common or the norm.

This is not good news. I had the opportunity to speak with Peter at our local HiFi show several years ago (well, he made a video presentation and I was able to ask him a few questions). He is very knowledgeable, passionate with a sense of humour. There is growing evidence that for many there are long-term health damage from Covid, and that recovery can take a long time. I hope Peter has a good recovery and does not experience serious long-term consequences from it. And if Peter has it, it may suggest that others in SoundSmith may have it as well, and best wishes to them and their families.

I feel fortunate to be in a country that has taken precautions which have limited infections on our community. Extended lockdowns were hard, but it is hard for me to conceive the large numbers of infections and the devastation the virus has had in the US and other countries. My condolences go to all who have been seriously affected - directly and indirectly. And I hope that we can get this virus under global control asap.
