Hey. I want to get a good version of this. My current version is very worn and sounds awful. It baffles me that this hasn't been reissued within the last ten years. So if I have to get a used copy what should I look for? I don't want to pay more than 70 dollars or there about.
The best sounding to my ears is what yasujiro said......the latter 70's Piros sounds a little cleaner than the early Us Atlantic pressings. I've never heard it myself, but the Classic Records 200 gram has a good reputation, but they get pricey. The reason this album hasn't been reissued in a while is the name on the end of the album.
please please please mr. hoffman, call neil young and ask him to let you re-master this classic.....................my number one wish from you.
This is one of the main titles I’d like to see become a UHQR release down the road. I’m not sure I’d wait around on that for now though.
VG condition on Discogs is a bold move. I'm not sure I'd risk it, given what I've seen described as NM.
My German copy with untextured black jacket sounds really good, definitely crisper than a US first press though I don’t believe I’ve heard a Piros.
You have eight different deadwax markings listed there, four of which don't appear to be Piros cuts : Matrix / Runout (Runout side A [Variant 1]): ST-A-701829-O ( ) H Matrix / Runout (Runout Side B [Variant 1]): ST-A-701830-O ( ) H Matrix / Runout (Runout Side B [Variant 2]): ST-A-701830-R [SRC logo] I-2 Matrix / Runout (Runout Side B [Variant 3] etched except stamped logo): ST-A-701830-R [SRC logo] I-3 Let's hope the seller you've bought from is diligent and honest. I wouldn't risk it either but best of luck to you !
I have 6 pressings of this, but I don't have time to list all of the matrice data info for each. I would assign these as my faves: 1. MFSL 2. Dutch Atlantic Plum 3. Canadian Atlantic Red
The Piros cut is fine. I have an early one from Richmond (RI) and its clean...no distortion or cloudiness.
@Kristofferabild Just be aware that no copies of this LP are going to sound great (or at least consistent). The songs were recorded at several different studios at different times (some when they were on tour, IINM), so don't expect an audiophile experience. .
Hands down for me is the 80's Sam Feldman pressing. Extremely hard to find but is the clear winner for me. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Déjà Vu
I have an original Monarch pre Piros that actually sounds quite good. Slightly later pressing w Gold Award sticker on cover.
Can’t find that Mofi for anything but a small mortgage these days. My Canadian is really good. Is that Mofi worth a concerted search effort?
