I saw that too this morning... I would get them, but my experience with the 80s was not that great. FAT and noisy cables, and so uncomfortable: that's what I remember... Therefore I don't understand the Grado followers...
I may give them a second try at a discount.

I have the 325i and the PS500. The thick cable doesn’t bother me. And regarding being uncomfortable, I guess I just got used to it.

Plug them into a 6 watt headphone amp and turn up the volume all the way, and yes you can smoke them.

    They’re good looking.

I don’t do any headphone listening currently and am not really looking to spend money on a building out a headphone rig but these look sweet.

After seeing Steve Guttenberg's review of these, I pre-ordered a pair.

Yes, just emphasizing the "420" again, and the descriptions on the Grado website are hilarious. Can't wait to get these.

"To be blunt, this is one of the best sounding Limited Editions we've built."

"The hemp may be doing the heavy lifting, but the hemphone is a joint effort. We built maple into the housing to help balance out the sound, and bring out the sonic properties that we’ve heard maple produce."

It's interesting that the Hemp headphone is using the very old school "flat" pads. The flat pads are what would come stock on the RS1 and RS2 20 years ago. Then they moved on to the "bowl" style pads and the "comfy" style pads. The return of the flat pads is kinda cool.

The flat pads tend to have a smaller soundstage than the bowl pads, but have more punch. I suspect Grado chose the flat pads during tuning of the new enclosure and driver because the flat pads ended up sounding better. For whaterver better is. It would be curious to hear the Hemp with the bowl pads and flat pads to hear the difference for myself.

    Are they swappable?

The different Grado pads are swappable. The comfy, bowl, and flat pads and even the big bagel pads fit the same and are swappable.

edit to clear up the Grado pad lingo:

The "comfy" pads are what Grado now calls the S cushion: Grado Headphone Replacement Cushion S

The "bowl" pads are what Grado now calls the L cushion: Grado Headphone Replacement Cushion L

The "bagel" pads are what Grado now calls the G cusion: Grado Headphone Replacement Cushion G

The "flat" pads fit flat on the ear. They don't surround the ear like the bowl pads can kinda (depends on how large your ears are). So the flat pads are more like the comfy pads in that they rest flat on the ears.

I was hoping for an indica version myself to get some nice relaxation while listening.

Steve Guttenberg says they have a lot of punch on the low end so that is why I am giving them a chance.
