Yeah, I'm a Seastones guy philosophically but as an actual listener not so much. I wanna love it, but I don't.

If DP35 must be an 80s show, any chance of a matrix to spice things up? My collection lacks a live Touch of Gray and Foolish Heart...would be OK with an 80s release if I could get one of those 3 things.

They could give us 7/12/90 and check all of those boxes.

6/20/80 is a great show, but 6/21/80 is as well and featured an all time Sugaree. Let's just have a box set and give the people some 1982 or 1985.

I’d like to see 6/27/69 come out at some point. The show fits on two discs, but they could add highlights from the following night to fill out the release.

I agree. I’ve noticed an improvement on the last two Picks too, as well as the ‘Ready Or Not’ disc. In addition to the cleaner, more direct sound, they seem to be much more dynamic than other recent releases. I don’t have the numbers for DaP 33 and 34, because I haven’t ripped them yet, but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the DR numbers for ‘Ready or Not’. Like 3dB more dynamic range than other live sets from the past couple years, and like 6 dB more than the Anthem and Aoxomoxoa anniversary sets. Big difference.

Never got the love for “Foolish Heart.” Always seemed like a “Touch” knockoff to me. An intentional grab at another radio hit, but not as good a song (and too heavy on the synths). But that’s me.

As for “Touch,” there’s a nice version on “Truckin’ Up to Buffalo” (7/4/89). Excellent show. I consider it a must-have for the later years.

Anyhow, a really good or great 80s show in the third slot this year is fine by me. Dave’s given us some good ones, but I don’t think we’ve had a great one in the DP series year. I certainly wouldn’t argue with some 60s Dead either.

Have there ever been a rumor before about a Dave's Pick? I don't remember reading one.

Next night with the epic Sugaree would be my pick though.

I really do like Foolish Heart and Garcia’s guitar lines are especially tasty but i don’t know that it ever really met its promise as a go-to for extended exploratory jams.

It has been captured on a number of releases - Warlocks, Giant’s Stadium, Spring ‘90 - but seems that it never become one of the major jam platforms through the last several years.

And, if we gotta dip into the ‘80’s, how about a summer show from one of the outdoor pavilions - say Alpine Valley (or Starlight)? Early ‘80’s / pre-‘86 please.

Had no idea, nice tidbit. Maybe I'll spin that disc with late-morning coffee....

Per Reddit, the guards allowed Bear to help them set up. Pretty cool if true.

Never listened to this show. Any thoughts? Anyone attend? :shh:

The last run I saw was at Shoreline in '94. They played a Foolish Heart and for the first time I felt the band had gotten inside the song enough that it could really start to grow into its potential. Sadly this was not to be.

Thanks for the info but big too bad they relegated some of the aforementioned 8/4/71 show to a bonus disc.

Foolish Heart would be for sentimental reasons only...it reminds me of high school. I don’t hear it much and would like to!
A 60s show would be cool as well...I don’t have any DPs from the 60s...

There used to be somebody on dead.net who would give cryptic clues about the next release that would keep people guessing. Don't think he's done it the last couple years though.

And weren’t they so cryptic no one was able to work out the answer?

Pretty much. I think somebody may have guessed one once, but that's it.
