Movies that aren't talked about much today.

I watched Pekinpah's The Deadly Companions (1961) the other day.

You know what it wasn't? Cheesy. Something I feel like is hard to come by in that era.

I think you can say that about any Peckinpah movie. Good movie... I recommend "Noon Wine" which at that time, Peckinpah called his favorite.

Btw, if you're a fan, most of the full interviews from "Man of Iron" are on YouTube. If you click on this, you'll be re-directed toward all the others.

I'm sorry to say I've only seen Hombre and Lord Of The Flies on this list.

Hombre, more because I am a big Elmore Leonard fan. It is a fine film. Leonard has a distinct way of handling dialogue as well as pacing and development when it comes to these lone hero stories.

I watched Lord Of The Flies in junior high English class after reading the novel. Piggy has the conch!

The dialogue is my favorite part of "Hombre" - not verbose, but said a lot, but I haven't seen it in a long time.. Martin Ritt made some good movies, despite being somewhat blacklisted, or given ridiculously low-budgets, but still delivered most of the time.

I love movies like "Lord of the Flies", where we see children act like adults, hierarchies, politics, might is right, etc... If you like that, check out a movie made around the same time, "Ladybug, Ladybug" directed by Frank Perry, who made some other great ones like "The Swimmer" and "David and Lisa".. It seems like his movies went downhill once he and his wife divorced (she would co-write with him).
