Either can I. I did look around but nothing, though I think Alice Cooper is a general pioneer despite not being heavy musically. The generally accepted view of Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory stands. I did pick up two nuggets of information which may be helpful if I ever say "Alex, I'll take Medieval Death Metal for $1,000". Wiki: Growled vocals may have been a part of Viking music. In the 10th century, Arab-Spanish Sefardi Jewish merchant Abraham ben Jacob visited Denmark and commented on the local music as follows: "Never before I have heard uglier songs than those of the Vikings in Slesvig. The growling sound coming from their throats reminds me of dogs howling, only more untamed." In Hildegard of Bingen's 12th-century allegorical morality play Ordo Virtutum, the role of the Devil uniquely does not employ melodic singing, but is performed in a manner which Hildegard specifies as strepitus diaboli and which is often taken to mean a low and growling voice. I finished Veilburner's debut album and was surprised that I liked it much more than expected. The eccentricity factor is there prominently but the straight ahead rocking is as well. I bought it. I'm going to message this duo from Pennsylvania just to ask some questions. I thing they're unsung geniuses. As always with Veilburner, no two songs are alike.
Pitchfork takes a look at one of the original black seeds - Black Sabbath's Paranoid. Black Sabbath: Paranoid Album Review | Pitchfork
I was going to say totally worth it when the 7th LP was being shown but what about De Mysteriis? Unless it's there with a different cover. Cool. What possibly could there be to say about Sabbath. Present arms!!! Veilburner put out a fourth song from the Dec 29 album. This has to be the final preview track.
Third Storm – The Grand Manifestation Ok. Third time’s the charm on this as I finally have it in my greedy fingers. First full album from a band that formed over 30 years ago (their first EP was in 2015 and is excellent). The Grand Manifestation grabs your neck from the first note, and while it may relax its grip occasionally, it never fully lets go until you are left a heap on floor. Blackened Death, Tech Death, Thrash, Doom, Sludge? It’s all there. What may come off as unfocused really simmers and marinates into a delicious bowl of METAL. Worth the wait! GRRRR
Now that I'm more familiar with the opening trio of Veilburner albums, they have taken a step down in my estimation. What they lack on those albums is emotional depth. They have the musical inventiveness down but it seems shallow ornamentation without heart and soul or emotion. As Black Sabbath was recently mentioned I feel like they are genuinely concerned when playing Children of the Grave or War Pigs. It was one of the things that was captivating about Behemoth's The Satanist, it was very earnest. I do hear emotional earnestness on the new tracks so maybe they've taken that crucial step up. We'll see. "Draugsól is dead. Long live Kaleikr." That was the long-winded statement from Iceland accompanying this new song from coming debut album Heart of Lead, out on Feb 15th 2019. It sounds good to me.

Best albums of the year lists are in full bloom on the various sites and I feel like I must be a curmudgeon squared or I've lost my mojo for I haven't liked 2018 nearly as much as 2017. I've been going back over lots of albums from this year to see if I failed to sufficiently appreciate them and remain empty. If I could keep only one album it would be Svartidauði's Revelations of the Red Sword. Well, Banger has their favs for 2018 and I like that they have short lists. Rivers Of Nihil's Where Owls Know My Name is both Sam and Blayne's fav and the vid is good so I'm going in fully and hope it sticks.
The owls did not know my name. I took refuge with two new romantic classics from 2014 that knew my name and social insurance number.
I'm surprised that Blayne didn't have Hooded Menace on his list, but he was wearing their shirt, also Brad has a lotta toys in his rooms. I thought there was a best of 2018 lock horns but I cannot seem to find it. Yeah that Svartidauði is definitely best of the year material, that one and another late in the year release, 1914's The Blind Leading the Blind would both make my top 5. I bought more new music this year than I ever have. I thought I would slow as I got older, but the reverse seems to be happening, dunno what's going on.
Yeah he does have lots of stuff behind him. I didn't notice it before. Maybe I should get myself to a shrink's sofa (chesterfield ) for being the opposite, always throwing stuff away, and sometimes regretting it. I didn't listen to music for five years during my long distance cycling obsession, training for the nonexistent Tour de Ontario. That was five years ago. Now, I'm surprised and pleased that music is more compelling than I would have expected. Even in competition with the other big entertainment eye seducers like movies, TV shows and video games, top flight music has something they do not. And you can even close your eyes for it. Just for my own amusement I took the idea of the "romantic" (Romanticism characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism) and wondered if I could cobble together a compilation of somewhat laid-back or relaxing Black/Death Metal: Black Chill. I was looking for a particular song (of course I couldn't remember the band's name and didn't find the song yet) and ended up hearing a lot of newly forgotten 2017. There were some great songs that year. I'd forgotten this one. It's not chill though. It's invigorating! I think this is in Panavision. The Raft of the Medusa (1818–19 by Théodore Géricault). I shifted the colour to blue. Just amusing myself. "Chill" isn't the right word.
Picked up on this from No Clean Singing's Shades of Black and like it a whole lot. Moritat, by Der Rote Milan February 1, 2019

There is an awesome hotel in St. Louis called the Cheshire Inn that has the bear (stuffed, thankfully) in the guest area. The Cheshire - A Premier Boutique Hotel in St. Louis, MO
I love the look of that place. It makes me sour to think of all the English style pubs that were once commonplace and are now rare. I had to google outside of the hotel's site to find the bear. Lovely Now I want a pint of dark ale or six.
