The Canadian, unfortunately named, Panzerfaust have an album coming Aug 28 The Suns of Perdition - Chapter II: Render Unto Eden, by Panzerfaust The single song available is okay. (It's too long of course). I wanted to like these Canadian guys and did a deep dive last year but just couldn't love them. Second tier. Though, there's a shot in a video that I think is fantastic. At 2:30 the shot of the drummer with the hooded dude in a noose singing behind him.
More straight BM from Quebec. Pretty standard stuff that distinguishes itself for me by the power chord breaks at 0:50 or instrumental break at 3:10. It's pleasing enough. Jun 24
The catchy as covid Rebel Wizard from Australia has another album of "negative wizard metal" coming July 10. Of the three songs available I only like the first. The wall of sound, layers of, have me want to flip a mono switch just for fun. I find myself imagining the benefits of being a one man band, honing that individual vision uncompromised. raiseth up all those that be bowed down, by REBEL WIZARD
Good evening daddy-o's, laying down a track from Iceland this Sunday night. It's a grand song, a mini opera. It has the most gratifying ending but beware of your hearing. The album sounds good and it's a DR 11, the louder it goes the better it sounds. The lovely progressively quieter ending ends with a loud dissonant note that'll make you wince at volume. The voice is of one who can heroically wield an axe! Wield it with their teeth.
Good stuff posted recently. Gonna have to check it out. New Lamb of God a solid 3.5 Grrrrs. New Forgotten Tomb is the bomb, as is RTJ4
The kid (reviewer) sure did a good job. I'm sold! ------- Based on the strength of one song I purchased the preorder for Rebel Wizard. Last night I thought I really should listen to his last album from 2018, I did and I didn't like it. I own it, an auto-buy but I guess I never listened to it. This traditional heavy metal would be a palate cleanse and it happens to be the best new song I heard today. I had to look for a pic as I wasn't sure if the singer was male or female, such are the very, very clean vocals. Jun 19

I just discovered Perdition Temple, led by Angelcorpse mastermind Gene Palubicki (or something!). First 2 albums are ok but this 3rd one SMOKES:
Pete and Gene from Angelcorpse used to live in Kansas City before they moved to Florida and I used to work on their gear. I dig the Perdition Temple track.
I'm surprised that I actually like this one, I wasn't expecting that . The mastering levels leave a lot to be desired but overall the sonics are ok.
Yeah, I saw them open a concert a couple years back but couldn't get into them. They had an interesting stage show, but their music wasn't really my cup of tea.

Ooooo! Loves me some listies! Here is my halfway thru the Year of Our Lord Covid19 fave list: Haunt ~ Mind Freeze - great trad metal, title track is an earworm. They have another disc coming out next week. Malokapartan ~ Krupinské ohne - love the atmosphere on this one, story behind the lyrics is interesting as well The Night Flight Orchestra ~ Aeromantic - I think this is their best disc yet, and Transmissions is an amazing disco earworm, vid is awesome too, drum set used on it was Abba's Cirith Ungol ~ Forever Black - proto doom vets deliver a stunner, doesn't sound like any time has passed since the early 80s, amazing Vader ~ Solitude in Madness - solid slab of meat and potatoes death metal, love their super short songs, whole thing is barely 30 mins Temple of Void ~ The World That Was - spacey death doom, possible disc o tha year, crushes from beginning to end Midnight Dice ~ Hypnotized ep - love this band, Starblind is my song of the year so far Drown ~ Subaqueous - come explore the Marianas trench with Markov Soroka and be crushed by the depths of these 2 songs and 42 minutes of aquatic funeral doom.
I just haven't been as into metal this year, I guess. I was disappointed in the Ihsahn EP, I like the Oranssi Pazuzu, but it's not my favorite of theirs. I do think the new Paradise Lost album is really good, but I don't consider them to be extreme metal. Again, I like the new Triptykon, but I like others of theirs better. I need to give Temple of Void more listening time. I thought it was good, but just wasn't in the mood for it when I was listening. Maybe I need to do a palette cleanse and listen to The Carpenters and James Taylor or something to put me back in Metal M00d.
Smitten by this one at the mo; not the biggest fan of american BM but this is in a whole different league; cosmic-sounding, with conventional drumming instead of blast-beating-into-oblivion, great audible bass and a riff-fest that doesn't leave space for cliched tremolo-wanking, makes this album unique to my ears. Got the remastered CD, and while the sound is ace, the bottom end is so big it forced me to substract bass with my bass knob (thax Satan for tone controls) Does anyone in here can tell me how it compares to the original release of the same recording ?
