Whew! Side One left me exhausted! In a good way of course. Time to 'flip the record' and give Side Two a listening.

I streamed it while I worked yesterday afternoon and the first few songs are so short, I thought they were all one song!

My first album purchase this year, Rotten Garden, the new LP from Siberian atmospheric black metal band Grima. Very heavy into the nature aspect that atmosblack often has, they even try to look like trees themselves. :D First single is cool and the title track premieres later today.

I'm listening to this right now, not bad at all my only complaint would be the veiled/muffled sound.

I like this reaction video person, she has a smooth, melodious voice which I find super relaxing, and she makes really funny faces when the growling starts, the Jinjer one she does is hilarious. Apparently she is a vocal coach specializing in opera. Here's her first listen to Opeth.

I'm in love with this song. Blakk Metal, by Odium Records Yes, the bandcamp sounds better than youtube and the quality of the recording is a huge reason repeated listens are rewarding. Bass to die for. It's a simple song but its so perfect in it's simplicity. I love the vocal and this is the first time I can say that about Nergal. That gnarled spoken vocal has me turn it up to examine every consonant. The guitar solo is glorious the way it slips in. The only weakness is the lyrics aren't quite as good as the music but the delivery is so good it's a minor lament. With only two songs out off the record there will only need to be a third good song for this to be a year end fav. Hurry up January 26!

"The song is taken from the live album 'Levende I Brønshøj Vandtårn', out March 26th on Deluxe DVD+CD, 2xLP+DVD, and Digital/Stream. Solbrud are known for performing at unique locations, with special care for lights and props, which now results in ‘Levende I Brønshøj Vandtårn’; a carefully curated live double album and video. All tracks were recorded inside Brønshøj Water Tower in Copenhagen at two totally sold-out nights. The tower is known for its brutalist architecture and unique acoustics – 15 seconds of natural reverb, which creates a fitting atmospheric backdrop for the monumental sound of the band. On top of that, the tower was freezing cold, amplifying the nature of the music. The release consists of 8 tracks, including songs from all three previous Solbrud albums. Some have been rearranged, taking the special acoustics into account, while others blast through in their original form. In addition to their set, the new song ‘Sjæleskrig’ was added to their setlist, which resonates hauntingly in the great tower’s reverberance. Along with the audio part, the entire concert was also captured on film - and the video footage is included as a DVD on both the vinyl and CD releases of ‘Levende I Brønshøj Vandtårn’. Apart from the impressive cover shots, the release also includes a booklet with photographs from the concert inside the tower. ‘Levende I Brønshøj Vandtårn’ was recorded on November 23rd and 24th 2019 and mixed by Marcus Ferreira Larsen (Vocalist, Demon Head) and mastered by Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Morbid Angel, Rainbow, etc.) at Sweet Silence Studios."
