That's sad news. RIP. He was a refreshing alternative in the 90s hat-o-rama. Great voice and lots of great songs.

    Oh No!
67 years old! Geez, not even that old to go this way.
    Very sad.
@melstapler will be devastated by this news.

So sad, only got to see him once at the Opry about 20 years ago, what a voice! He grew up in the town next to mine (Salem NY), Greenwich, NY (upstate in the boonies of Washington county) but I did not know him .

It would be great if these 90s country guys that we go "Oh yeah, I remember him. Love that song!" about could all be gathered by Chad at AP or someone at mofi and put together a best of the forgotten 90s country.

Wont happen, but it would be very cool.

Ah, the early '90s "pants tucked into boots" look. Hate to admit I did that more than a few times.

I reviewed this album back in the day. From what I remember, I liked it. I may have seen Hal at SXSW one year too.

Oh man, I did not know about Doug Supernaw passing away earlier. All three were very talented singers. My brother just loved Hal Ketchum.

I just texted my daughter, who actually cut a song at Sun Studios in the 90's and she use to do a lot of local fair shows in San Diego, CA as well. We were at our favorite pizza restaurant that had karaoke several nights a week and in walks Doug Supernaw. This place was located in Murrieta, California. He ends up singing Karaoke all night. No ego or anything. He and my daughter sang Summer Nights, a Garth & Trisha duet and we think, a Tim & Faith duet. What a memorable night it was for all of us, including the random customers that showed up on that special night.

Oh man, I just loved that song, but I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder, Chris! I am going to track down the CD from which it came.

    You are most welcome!

In my collection I have a promotional CD single of Hal's cover of Todd Rundgren's "I Saw The Light" and it came with a hidden second CD that was called "The Hits". That second CD has the real cream of Hal's crop. This is what it looks like and if you click on the "more images" button, it will show you that second "Hits" CD. I don't believe that exact "Hits" disc was ever released to the public, but I could be wrong?

Late EDIT .. "The Hits" was released and this is the CD that you should buy ...

I’m sure one of the CDs that I own by him contained a bonus hits CD - yet I can find no record of it on Discogs. Will try and dig it out.

Oh just outstanding and I just ordered one on Amazon. I just loved Small Town Saturday Night as well and many of those other songs. I didn't even know he had such a great comprehensive hits collection. Thanks again, my friend!

Tonight I Just Might Fall In Love Again is the only Top 40 hit from his prime missing and it is on Every Little Word.
