Sure. They fly on private jets and helicopters to and from exotic locations they don’t seem to actually appreciate.

Also, it’s not really the kind of show you can catch once in a while when surfing. It’s pretty important to watch every episode.

My opinion? Don’t go into a thread specifically titled to be about a show you enjoy and are not up to date on watching.

Of course. They scheme and drink and covet. They do lots of irresponsible things in various mansions, resorts, offices, yachts, helicopters and planes.

Season 2, Episode 11 is what you're looking for. Gun fights, car chases, women in bikinis and guest starring Iron Man. Whoop!

Well, it's definitely a show that doesn't feature any gratuitous "cool" gun action or CGI-ed fight scenes or whatever folks in the US have come to expect regarding subscription series, but the dialogue and the acting are top-notch. The show is an intense character study of personalities -- it's never going to be a visual "excitement" fest.

There has never been a show in which a father tells his kids to "f@#$ off!" as much as Logan does!

After rewatching the 12/5 ep again, Shiv's pathological problems really jumped out at me.

It seems she reacts based on what folks surmise about her. When her mother says that it's good that Shiv never had children because she herself should have never been a mother, Shiv automatically runs to Tom very determined to now have a baby.

For quite a while, Shiv was happy to sit on the sidelines and not be involved in the "day to day" regarding Waystar, but once she is told by her brothers (especially Roman) that she's not fit to hold a real position of power, all of a sudden, she is determined to get it.

It's almost like her "desires" are only triggered after someone tells her what she can't do or points out a shortcoming.

Another thing that later occurred to me. A deeply confidential conversation like that isn't going to "officially" happen between two coworkers, regardless of their level of employment. That's the kind of thing where Human Resources gets directly involved, and in this highest-level case, I would guess the top executive in their HR department and the company's General Counsel (normally Gerri before being designated interim CEO). Shiv seems desperately unaware of how these things work when you're in an office (but, again, their world is one big office with no delineation between personal and professional). It's good to know that all these years I've worked in offices (and in places similar to Waystar!) haven't been for naught! For me, that scene was just a vaguely threatening conversation with an otherwise very intelligent woman who doesn't know the environment or to whom she's speaking. No doubt over the years, and in a company this foul, Gerri has sat in on some heavy HR encounters like this that make the "son of company founder and head sending dickpics to fellow employee" scenario feel like child's play. Sure, something that would look terrible and cause great harm if it got out, but it wasn't until recently that stuff like this ever got out.

Except it is visually very exciting, if you like stunning scenery. Some of the places they go for meetings on a whim are absolutely gorgeous.

Yes, point taken, but I was using the term "visual excitement" in regard to quick cuts and action... the stuff that most violent shows like to dazzle us with.

I just think that if someone thinks a show has "too much talking," the majestic visual drone shots of Italy or the NYC cityscape isn't going to change their view.

Oh, 100%. I was really just adding another way in which some people apparently don’t appreciate something I think is objectively excellent…

I love the expectation that “surfing” into the middle of a program randomly should necessarily yield something other than dialogue.

I am also a little taken aback that anybody is “surfing” channels in 2021. If you have HBO, you have a guide screen, right?

Man, I think the same thing sometimes. I remind myself that it's mimicking the unseen and semi-romanticized parts of leading a big business and remember how at the top of the chain, all you really can do is talk. The only "action" taken is that of....more pointed/decisive talking right? I watch too much TV not to be critical, but am too much of an artist not to understand there's always something deeper or hiding in plain sight that reveals the artistic reason for all talk and no action being the vehicle to character and plot development. Sometimes I have to rewatch a war film just to see what pure action looks like instead of 100% talking.

It strikes me that the best things about Succession are the lack of action or even dialog. Moments of awkward silence or a character sitting in a room alone, or a pained look between two or three characters...or like how the last show ended with someone gently passing out in the pool. No dialog or action needed.

I think it's well done, for sure, but not one of the finest. The twists have all been badly telegraphed and predictable, and it's getting repetitive. The acting is good, but it's not like you can say Logan Roy is the defining role of Brian Cox's career like you can say of shows I consider superior Tony Soprano was the defining role of James Gandolfini's career and Don Draper was the defining role of Jon Hamm's career. Succession isn't even in the same ballpark.

I will say that HBO develops the best shows in general.

Well all I can say is Logan Roy is not the central character (there isn't one) and the moments you like best are not the moments I like best. If not one the best it's definitely one of the funniest.

Brian Cox was already a star when he was cast. He didn't need this role to define his career.

My wife loves this show, I’m not fussed about it. It’s well shot, well acted, but I just HATE every character. I don’t care what happens to any of them. They’re all such, horrible, horrible people. I guess that’s the point, just not my thing.

Last night's ep (12/12) was downright incredible -- I just can't praise it enough!

I'll be discussing it more in full later this afternoon (ET).

Spoiler alert: I won't be using "spoiler alerts."
