I work with some very talented people who put together and coreograph fashion shows. I'm the sound/PA guy and the one who has to track down music at the last minute.

The expertise I need is a list of good (and easy to find) songs in the "GO GO" style that would feel at home in an Austin Powers movie-- only I want all original songs and not remakes or re-recordings. As an example, I immediately thought of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" by Nancy Sinatra.

The whole show for Back To School will be 90 minutes so I don't need that many. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Goin To A Go Go and Mickey's Monkey by Smokey Robinson & Miracles? I put the ? because I've never seen any Austin Powers movies. Is he a Bohunk? Viking? German Shepherd?

I'd try an album called Made in USA by Pizzacato Five.
They were a japanese band from the early 90's but definitely seemed to be in this style. They had a song called Go Go Dancer on it. They had a minor alternative hit with Twiggy Vs James Bond also.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

True. Ironically, Toga Rock (Pink) fits well in this application!

Some good mentions above. Here are some more of that genre that remind me of when I was a kid:

    Downtown - Petula Clark
    The Happening - The Supremes
    Windy - The Association
The Rain, The Park And Other Things - The Cowsills
Sunday Will Never Be The Same - Spanky & Our Gang
San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair) - Scott McKenzie
    Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf
Incense And Peppermints - The Strawberry Alarm Clock
You're Lost Little Girl - The Doors
    Hello, Goodbye - The Beatles
    Penny Lane - The Beatles

(I can't believe no one had yet mentioned a Beatles song!)

The only song by the Beatles I think fits the Go-Go thing is "Drive My Car". I define Go-Go music as something I can see those Hugaballoo (sp?) girls in mini-skirts dancing to.

Also Back In The USSR Grant, would fit the bill and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

A couple of others would be:
"We Got More Soul"-Dyke & The Blazers
"Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)-John Fred and his Playboy Band

Yeah, I can also hear "Back In The U.S.S.R.", Dave, but you can go-go dance to "Lucy In The Sky"?????

Well yeah I guess you are most likely right about Lucy. (Jeff we really need that shrug icon;) )

Hey, how about "96 Tears" and "I Need Somebody" by ? & The Mysterians? I love that instrument, the Farfisa. To me, that instrument crystalizes the sound of the mid 60s!

I think the theme to American Bandstand in 1967 also used it. If you all don't recall, the theme music sounded kind of like "Black Is Black" by Los Brovos.

I may have been only four years old but I remember stuff like that vividly. I watched a lot of TV as a kid.

"Shotgun" by Jr. Walker & The All-Stars.

Now, I must admit that i've never seen that Austin Powers movie, but I have seen Hullabaloo!:)

Just about any early Kinks hit would fit the bill--"Dedicated Follower of Fashion" would be good for a fashion show!

I guess when I think of your aplication here I think more about some instrument hits that have that circa "Austin Powers" feel and that would be great in a fashion show application including:

    No Matter What Shape--T-Bones
Music To Watch Girls By--Bob Crewe Generation
    (Theme from) Mission Impossible--Lalo Shafrin

And a couple of vocal hits:

    Goldfinger--Shirley Bassey
    You Only Live Twice--Nancy Sinatra

    A few ideas for you!
