My wife bought a Technics SL-D2 TT new some 35 years ago. My daughter got it repaired for Christmas a few years back from an out-of-town repair shop. I need to replace the stylus since it broke recently, although not sure how.

I have tried the AT95E and the ATN95E as I have researched those should work for the SL-D2 but neither fit.

Is it possible the repair shop changed out the cartridge so that I am looking for the wrong stylus replacement?

If so, any thoughts on a stylus replacement? We aren't huge audiophiles but do like our LP's for sure.

I've attached photos of what I have.

    Thanks for any help!

That looks like an Audio-Technica ATN-91.

That's what I thought too! Will give that a try.

The AT vm95e cartridge it's not expensive at all ... you can change the cartridge and also you'll have new suspension, coils, etc.

52mm from the stylus tip to the rubber in the headshell collar and you're done.

I have a SL-D2 with a VM95ML, which is the same cartridge but a different stylus and I have no issues at all. Fit is perfect and the sound is great.

Well, the ML it's a microline stylus, that's a very different animal ... for good.

After I began to use fine line styluses (shibata / microline / ginger / ...) i never go back to elliptical ones. As the thread owner ask for the elliptical specifically, I didn't mentioned, but if you can stretch your budget to the vm95ml ... do it ... without a doubt.
