Does anyone know what were the origins of the words "Cast" and "Star" as movie term glossaries?

I think "Cast" goes back to legitimate theater, hundreds of years ago. Shakespeare's Globe Theater in London goes back to 1599, and I think even there they talked about "our cast of characters."

"Movie Star" goes back to the silent days. A clue is in the famous film Singin' in the Rain, where the beautiful (but sour-voiced) Lina Lamont says, "I'm a shining star in the cinema firmament!" (Or firma-MINT, as she says it.)

I had a feeling "Cast" was a variation on "reeling in someone for a part" (like reeling in some Fish when you're casting a lure).
