I have about 180 Westerns on BR and DVD plus Deadwood and Justified as BR box sets. The only genre I like more than Westerns is Film Noir.
Hmm... A Fistful of Dollars (Blu Ray) For A Few Dollars More (Blu Ray) The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (Blu Ray) Once Upon A Time In The West (Blu Ray Steelbook) The Searchers (Blu Ray) High Plains Drifter (Blu Ray) The Outlaw Josey Wales (Blu Ray) Django Unchained (Blu Ray + Soundtrack CD) Django (DVD) The Great Silence (DVD) The Cowboys (DVD) The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (DVD) Rio Bravo (DVD) Django, Kill... If You Live, Shoot! (TV recording) The Last Wagon (TV recording) Not that many, actually.
I just picked up the Criterion Blu-Ray of The Shooting/Ride In The Whirlwind. These are two fairly low-budget movies by director Monte Hellman that were filmed in 1965. Jack Nicholson co-produced them, and has supporting roles in both. They are both under 90 minutes long. I've watched The Shooting so far, and thought it was quite good. The starring actor is Warren Oates, always an asset to a western. Will Hutchins, who starred in the TV western Sugarfoot also has a prominent role. An interesting aside, both these films were filmed in the Glen Canyon region of the Utah desert the year before Glen Canyon was flooded to create the artificial Lake Powell. All the beautiful high desert scenery in these two films is now underwater. For anybody interested, the Blu-Ray can be purchased for half price from Barnes & Noble through Aug. 2nd.
Over a hundred of blu-rays. That includes Spaghetties and a very nice 12-disc Gojko Mitić collection of Easterns.
"Ballad Of Cable Hogue"- Jason Robards as lead. "Tom Horn"-Steve McQueen as Horn. "Open Range" with Kevin Costner & Robert Duvall "War Wagon"-John Wayne/Kirk Douglas "Firecreek"- James Stewart & Henry Fonda as the bad guy. "The Cheyenne Social Club"- James Stewart & Henry Fonda. Thought I had more. Looks like I'm going to be buying more Westerns on disc. Some really good ones mentioned in this thread I haven't seen before.
I just looked and I have 7: The Man With No Name Trilogy - Blu-ray set (3) The Outlaw Josey Wales - Blu-ray Unforgiven - Blu-ray The Magnificent Seven - DVD Dances With Wolves - Blu-ray
Does anyone know if the episodes of this TV series as released on DVD are the original, uncut versions? I've read "The Rebel" TV series was put out by Timeless Media Group, and I know that two other Western series they released ("The Guns of Will Sonnet" and "Branded") used the syndicated/edited versions, but one other Western series they released ("Laredo") seems to have used the complete episodes. So, I'm looking for info on "The Rebel" if anybody can help.
Major Dundeee and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid And Larry Crowne, which is sort of western when you think about it. Scooters being a metaphor for horses.
I noticed where you wanted to start up a convo with me, but I had not responded thereto, owing to my not having touched my copy of The Rebel in quite a while-- I'll have to start watching it again to see if there are; that is a great question. It is also quite difficult for me to give a straight answer, because I was not exposed too much to The Rebel in syndie or on the classic channels.
Absolutely. But IMO it would depend on where the CW event occurred. Conflict occurred in western states as well; New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas....
My barometer to tell if a show is "complete" on DVD is this: If it's a series from the 50s/60s (and probably a good portion of the 70s) if the episode clocks in at around 25 minutes give or take, then more likely than not, the episodes are complete 22 or 23 minutes for a show of that era, then you know it was edited.
17, and I had to squeeze in a couple of modern day set-in-the-west films to get that many. That isn't enough. I can't believe I don't own Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Need to browse this thread and fill some gaps. Bandidas Blazing Saddles The Cowboys Django Unchained The Good, the Bad and the Ugly The Hateful Eight Hell or High Water The Long Riders No Country For Old Men Once Upon a Time in the West The Professionals Rio Bravo The Searchers South of Heaven, West of Hell Stagecoach Tombstone The Wild Bunch
Just the 10 UHD........ Unforgiven BD........... A Fistful of Dollars A Few Dollars more BTTF 3 Dances With Wolves Django Unchained Outlaw Josey Wales Silverado The Good, Bad and Ugly Tombstone
for those who haven't yet seen this fantastic film ... consider this scene a trailer! i forgot to mention this is part of my collection as well. George Sheppard Scene - the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford
I have none which is a shame. I use to have a lot of them but my wife (who dominates the tv) hates them. I sold them since I never get to watch them. Sometimes I will watch one on Prime when she isn’t around.
Thank you to the OP, who started this thread. All the unwatched Western DVD's are now in a bag (numbering around 30) and I'm getting through them - so far I've watched CACTUS JACK (also known as The Villain), POSSE and TEXAS ACROSS THE RIVER. I'm thinking there'll be a Dean Martin and/or Raquel Welch themed Western night soon.
