Your poll will not be valid.

I've always been average, no matter the age.

But seriously, my daughter 11 was listening to jazz on my system today when I got in, and I know my son 8 was doing some beasties cause he left it in the cd player.

I consider myself above average in all things. This analysis makes me somewhat average as an audiophile.

I represent the under 30. Not only that, but I'm big time into stereo. Not just the headphone stuff which most of my peers my age seem to be into. Not that there's nothing audiophile about headphones, but stereo reproduction of music is more fun if you ask me.

I'm in my 50s. When I was a teenager and just started work in the early 80s the big thing to buy after a car was a hifi system., TV wasn't such a big deal then, computers and smart phones didn't exist. Most people I knew at least bought a semi decent hifi system.

Hmm... a poll like this is probably never going to be that accurate, on account of all the younger folks who are really really into 'head-fi', yet don't see themselves as 'audiophiles'. :sigh:

Semantics + self-image > polls. For better or worse.

I seem to be in the most popular age group!

    Why not include the teens?

I'm in my 40's but only just....and when I see the crowd at audio shows, I just know the 50's has to be the largest group. I will be joining them next year :D:cry:.

In my 40’s now but started in my early 30’s getting interested in audiophile things like finding better mastered versions of records and CDs. Was always interested in better than average audio equipment and setup since I was a teen.

Think around 45 is a good year. Depending on the individual hearing could be suspect after that.

I certainly started reading top shelf (Hi-Fi) magazines and bought a Rega, NAD, KEF system as a teen back in the seventies.

Not sure how high a priority it would be for a teen these days.

I've been a music lover/collector since 1979, but started getting into hi-fi in the early 90's, when I bought my first Yamaha rack system, which was really consumer grade, but way better than boomboxes I was using prior to that. I've gotten my first taste of better sound in 2003, when I bought a NAD/PSB system and Audioquest speaker cables.

Well, if this post was 1 year earlier I wouldnt have been able to vote. Dont see a reason not to include it.

When I began as an audiophile in my 20's the average age was much younger, and so the ads were targeted to youth... what happened?

Can't speak for the "average", only myself. I'm now 61, but I've been an audiophile since my late 20's........

i began gradually developing interest back in my late-teens/early-20's back around 1999/2000,
and am still going today at 37, with and infinitely better system than i started out with.

my ultimate goal for years now has been to build myself a dream all-PIONEER system,
and i've come quite close to the ideal in the years since.

in fact, my system was indeed all-PIONEER, until just a few days ago,
when i came across a pair of POLK R10 2-way mini-monitors that managed to
blow my 4-way PIONEER CS-G503s completely away.

until now, i clearly had little idea of just how good a true Hi-Fi speaker system can actually sound...

I would guess the average age on this site to be above fifty, I'm seventy five and on some of the UK Hi-Fi sites I frequent most are thirties, forties upwardly mobile types.
