I agree with the comments about the visual aspect. Once you reach a certain level of sound quality the rest is audio porn. I would not enjoy my system nearly as much without that Mac green glow and the beautiful copper drivers dancing in my Klipsch.
At the dealers you should also take care to plug your nose. the odor of some patrons can be very distracting and possibly cause you to hurry your decision.
This might be related: There was a YouTube video from Techmoan (see below) where he compared two Walkman players to see which one sounded better.
Also a Romulan cloaking device. You turn it on, your system disappears and people wonder where the sound is coming from.
Let me save you some time. Your wife is going to say: " I don't care. Get whichever one you want. Can we go now? I have something I need to return at Target."
I guess I am spoiled. My wife is musical and enjoyed the process. Final choice was mine but she was involved. And yes, I do take her to Target
Funny.....when I demoed my Mac 252 I had my wife listen to it and then to my old emotiva and she looked at me and said write it up buck. I fell in love all over again. Lol
I realize this thread is a year old and I also realize the OP was referring to going to audio dealers . . . . but for me, I don't even want to stare at my gear in my room when listening. I don't feel a need to 'display' my stereo for one thing but I find the more I don't see it the more I focus on the music. It's actually hidden. Of course speakers are a different matter and are out in the open out of necessity but not 'displayed'. I like subtle where the music is paramount.
One great thing about Klipschorns is they like an automobile chassis can be internally completely rebuilt. X~Overs, horns as well as the individual drivers to fit your needs. And all right at home. That’s a project that has been at the back of my mind. Well, maybe……after everything else gets sorted out.
