I feel like playing some Linda Ronstadt. Is that so wrong?

micklinda.jpg I'm playing the DCC Greatest Hits, Volume 2 and noticing (or remembering) that a few of her covers were the first versions I ever heard of the songs (like "It's So Easy").

I'm also remembering that the DCC version of Volume 2 has a bunch of countdowns on it. Don't know if I'd do that today. I like the count-offs and I guess I left them on there to show that we didn't use some crappy Greatest Hits dub but the actual session masters but still..

Also, the songs from MAD LOVE on there are from the unissued analog mixes I found, not the digital versions. When you crank "HOW DO I MAKE YOU? it's obvious. Neat.

Pretty rare stuff. It sounds great (volume II, DCC Gold). Hope you have your copy.

At any rate, she sure was cute, wasn't she? I met her in the 1970s a bunch of times at KPFK and a more insecure singer I've never seen. She had no reason to be but everyone intimidated her. I told her that she had nothing to worry about (going on a radio show I was engineering with folk singers, etc.) but it did no good. Curious.

At any rate, I'm playing Linda and I'm proud, damn it.

    Not at all.

I occasionally play the "Greatest Hits (1 & 2)" and the "Heart Like A Wheel" CD's (all gold discs, for the record).

  5. Nope. ALL of her work deserves more attention than it gets today. A terrific singer who never needed to feel threatened.

I don't think its ever wrong to play Linda's music. Especially if its the DCC GH Vol. 2. I have three vinyl copies of "Heart Like A Wheel" and enjoy that album just as much.

    Not at all Steve,
What a great body of work she has. I don't know why, but the first song I heard in my head when I read the thread title was "Easy For You To Say" from the "Get Closer" LP. A lovely Jimmy Webb Song that Linda sings the heck out of. And oh my, What a pretty girl.

I guess there have been other situations like this - where you might do things differently today.

Glad to hear your take on your interaction. I recall seeing her on Letterman and she appeared to be very uncomfortable and had a hard time with the interview. I don't think it helped that Dave does not do a run through with his guests prior to going live from what I understand.

Now I would just leave one on there, I'd shave the rest off, I guess. So neat to hear though..

At any rate, playing the DCC Linda's tonight reminded me of a funny story (wasn't funny at the time though).

I was at the DCC/Cisco Music shared hospitality room at the CES a long time ago and the cute blonde Cisco lady (who both Chad Kassem and I dated though we didn't know it at the time) was telling me that a bunch of Asian audiophiles had been coming in and buying all the DCC Gold they could carry. Well, that was a good thing but she had a funny look and sure enough, this Japanese collector came in and asked to hear the Linda Ronstadt/Greatest Hits DCC Gold CD. We didn't want to open one but Jerry Tolmich said "Sure, here you go", convinced the guy would buy it.

Well, he played it on the stereo we had in there, some Vandersteens or something, can't remember, and the guy said: "That sounds terrible" and walked out. The Cisco lady looked at me as if to say "Told you, weird stuff".

We all shrugged but it bothered me so I ran after him and asked what he didn't like about it.

"Too high fidelity sounding, not at all like my old LP".

    Can't please everyone.

Love Linda. Speaking of the radio, I had on tape a wonderful interview with Linda & Lowell George on WHFS -FM from Bethesda, MD 1975.
