I know Brian Wilson's SMILE is probably the most popular release, but has anyone picked up the new DVD release of this fun movie?

I bought it at Best Buy for $14.99 at lunch time today. So far I've watched about 40 minutes of the film listening to the commentary track. I've had this on LD since it was first released. It is a favorite of mine.

As Ringo Klaus said. "I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BEATLES!"

What's the viewing ratio, 2.35:1 or 1.85:1? I've only ever seen it 'formatted to fit my TV screen'. :sigh:

Yes. I have both of these DVDs pre-ordered at amazon. The IWHYH DVD is listed as "Shipping Soon". Backbeat not shiped yet. $13.99 each, free shipping (on orders over $25).

This is a great movie. I like the fact that they used all original Beatles music unlike that American Dreams episode where all the kids are (supposedly) singing along with a Beatles record till you realize there's no record playing and the girl finally gets her Capitol Beatles single. Surprise! It's an istrumental cover!

I've got a copy coming from Amazon, too, along with the book on Paul McCartney's tour.

Haven't received Backbeat yet. Amazon has Backbeat "delivery estimate: October 6, 2004 - October 7, 2004", but the item page shows no availability. Don't know what happened to the DVD release, but the order is still there. :shake:
Possibly delayed, hope it's not cancelled.

Nothing yet. They haven't cancelled my order yet, but the item page doesn't have a release date either.

Amazon.ca has it listed as available and released on September 28, 2004. Anyone know what is "Special" about this edition? The original DVD version I have had commentary, deleted scenes, etc.

    From thedigitalbits.com:

"Newly announced for 1/25/05 from Universal are an October Sky: Special Edition (SRP $14.98 - anamorphic widescreen with both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio) and the delayed Backbeat: Special Edition (SRP $19.98)"

Looks like I'll have to wait.
