I'm interested in songs, albums, or artists that feature the pedal steel in some fashion, and from the indie or alternative rock genres in particular.

I've found bands like Pavement, Velvet Crush, and Yo La Tengo have all dabbled with the sound. A more recent record is The Underground Is A Dying Breed by Hot Rod Circuit.

Thank you to any one that can recommend something I may like. I've included links to some examples in hopes it will clarify what I'm looking for.

The great opener "Farewell Transmission” from Songs: Ohia Magnolia Electric Co. features starts with a big, bluesy pedal steel hook ...

Fantastic song. Thank you. I'm familiar with a couple of their songs, but I had not heard this one.

I wouldn't really classify Japancakes as "rock", but they are an incredibly talented group of musicians creating hypnotic, mostly relaxing grooves...Bill Frisell, Mogwai and B.J. Cole or Buddy Emmons in a blender. Instrumentation is mostly pedal steel, drums, guitar, viola, etc.

I saw band of horses this summer and was surprised how much lap steel they used. The first song may be one of the most rocking songs to have one

Some pedal or lap steel toward the end of "Acid Food" by Mogwai, nice song. And some great ones from Sparklehorse, I do miss Mark Linkous a lot, below is "Heart of Darkness" from the great VivaDixieSubmarineTransmissionPlot ...

I listened to both title tracks, and while I didn't hear the pedal steel I still enjoyed both songs. I assume there is pedal steel mixed amongst the albums themselves.
