No, they're considered rock & roll.

18 rock albums topped the (UK) OCC 100 album chart in 2020 and 18 rock albums topped the (Australian) ARIA top 50 album chart in 2020 (so far). Compared to only two topping the Billboard 200 this year and one of those was by a rapper.

There hasn't been a rock band that mattered after Queens Of The Stone Age, and even they ceased to be interesting 16 years ago. By mattered I mean commercially successful while still being original.

I guess its dormant if you go by 'charts' and 'radio', but those are mostly populated by crap now. Meaning much of the music biz is predicated on flash-in-the-pans. Its set up that way. The production on some newer music is incredible, and that just magnifies the utter whiny soulessness of new stuff.

30 years from now any kid with a brain and a heart is still going to be blown away by 'Won't Get Fooled Again' for the first time. The current flavors-of-the-month will be long forgotten

You mean like how the flavors of the month of August 1971 (the month Who's Next was released) are forgotten?

95% of ALL rock releases are forgotten with in weeks, and that's been true since rock began. It's the nature of popular music.

I'd rather that they were blown away by the new bands that emerge 30 years from now.

It's not popular as in having mass appeal like it used to but does that mean it's dead? Not in my opinion. There are still rock bands in the charts. Ok, some of them are classic rock that is being bought or rebought on vinyl but that should still count.

^ That pretty much says it all. You can't get much more rock n roll than AC/DC.

Like how any kid with a brain and a heart in 2020 is blown away by hearing Tommy Dorsey for the first time.

Nor really. You can rate music in terms of influence and significance.
Take Nirvana, they were the last rock band to really, really matter, they basically remodeled the market.
Take Dylan and The Beatles in the 60s.

Sounds like you're conflating influence and innovation. They're not really connected.
