  6. I don't know or understand why the hell hasn't Sony Pictures released Gattaca on UHD BD yet. It used to be one of their premium titles a decade ago. It was released on DVD back in 1998 at the same time as the VHS version. It was one of the titles of the first batch of Superbit DVD's, it got a great release (for the time) on BD only one year and a half into the format, but over 4 years later after UHD BD was marketed we are still waiting for Gattaca to be released, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who want it on UHD BD. In the meantime Sony Pictures has released some really silly catalogue titles on UHD BD like the Charlie's Angels movies. Well done Sony Pictures!!!

"CA" had a logical tie-in with the 2019 movie's release.

4K UHD is a niche of a niche. "Gattaca" seems to have a decent fanbase but I guess Sony doesn't think the film has enough popularity to sell on 4K...

I hope you were quick - this appears to be sold out on pre-orders!

  10. And Charlie's Angels movies are popular enough to be released on UHD BD? I wonder how many of these Sony has sold...

Regarding The Godfather, from what I remember of FFC’s commentary in the blu-ray editions, the negatives of the first two films are not in great condition. It took a lot of restoration to even get them up to blu-ray standards, and even those editions do not look all that great. So I can only guess it would be very very expensive to restore up to 4K -something that the studio might not be prepared to do now -even for Godfather.

The restorations were done in 4K if I'm not mistaken.

So there are people who would apparently buy the Resident Evil movies in 4K...

  19. They actually look as good as one can make them look considering the chose of lighting, film stock, condition of the OCN AND 4K would actually improve many things. There are things such as additional detail, crushed blacks in some scenes that would be improved. Having said that, it will also expose the flaws as well which were always there to begin with. As I recall, the film was restored in 4K and then released in 1040.

I think this is true -- Jan Yarbrough at Warner MPI did say they did the scans in 4K, so I'm assuming the restoration was done in 4K as well.

1920x1080 HD, yes. I wouldn't doubt that Warner Bros. is just sitting on the finished 4K masters of the Godfather movies and deciding when to release them.

No less than Roger Deakins has said he's not anxious for this film to come out in 4K, because it took months and months of work to get this done just in 2k (very close to HD). He talked about this a bit on his podcast some months back. On the other hand, he also said it's much, much easier to do this kind of color work today in 2020 than it was way back in 2002, so maybe they could do it in 3-4 weeks instead of the 3-4 months it took for Julius Friede and Mike Bellamy to do it at Cinesite back in the day.

I would love a release of Ragtime.
It boggles my mind that this hasn’t seen a release on blu ray.
Kurasowa’s RAN also gets a big vote.

Sony just released the 2000 reboot on 4K, not its sequel.

Of course, the 2019 movie got a 4K release but that's to be expected since it was a new title...
