I think Maria will walk home & on the way she will meet up with Elliot (who is longing for a friend to come back). They will eventually marry.

With all the press for Spider-man and Ghostbusters, I feel like West Side Story has vanished off the face of the earth.

Hat tip to Spielberg and big raspberry to Bernstein, who ordered this version banned:

Comes out next week - Dec 10 running time is 156 minutes, the trailers haven't generated a huge number of views which tells me it's up to word of mouth/text to make this movie happen at the box office.

Banned from what? It's been on records in both studio and live versions and was released as a single.

    Yipe. That's dreadful.

It's not really a "version" of "America" though, more a six-minute mess with bits of "America" tossed in at various places.

A play that stereotypes certain people? Whoever heard of such a thing?

Looks like we need to take another look at Shakespeare and cancel a goodly number of his plays. Also musicals such as "Oklahoma!", "South Pacific", "My Fair Lady", and "The Kind and I", all of which present various kinds of national or racial stereotypes.

Sorry, it seems I remember the story wrong, but this article explains the brouhaha and has Bernstein' negative opinion about the version. Flag-burning may have been a factor.

Tony survives and is nursed back to health by Riff, who was cruising on the night of the rumble and missed it. They leave NYC and set up housekeeping in San Francisco.
Maria becomes a model and moves to Paris.

The Nice were banned from the Albert Hall for burning the US flag during America. So, they were kinda banned.
I like the brief nod to the theme from Laurence of Arabia in the live Fillmore rendition.

The Ghostbusters Afterlife trailers weren't getting "huge" numbers of hits either, but it still opened to $44 million. That number would be a triumph for a musical opening in December. December musicals usually open modestly and then have massive legs through Christmas and into the next year and Oscar season. Greatest Showman, La La Land, Les Mis, Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns, etc. Those all grossed about $150-175 million domestic in the end. Unless it's a trailer appealing to the young adult male "gamer" demo (superhero or sci-fi action films) or one for a Disney family movie, they don't seem to get a lot of "hits."
