Loved his work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the early '60's.
    R.I.P. Mr. Fuller.

I feel like Curtis Fuller never got the recognition he deserved, overshadowed by JJ Johnson.

I tried to see if there are any articles about his passing, but there’s nothing.

May he rest in peace. Bu's Delight, which he composed, is one of my favorite Jazz Messengers tracks ever.

This guy opened my eyes on how our jazz greats are treated. I met him at North Sea Jazz (back in the days in The Hague). I was endorsing high end microphones back then. He came over to buy one, with just one demand: "It has to fit in my trombone bag when I play bar mitzvas and wedding parties"...... Left me with my mouth open. My hero was playing bar mithzvas for a living and needed just an easy mic to take along when he took the subway. No other specific demands......

Stuff like this is why Frank Zappa disbanded The Mothers. If Duke Ellington has to beg for advance money, what chance does Zappa have of making it?
