I like deGuzman, but Jennings made a bad call tonight. :shake:

Luigi deGuzman was allowed a lot of time to correct himself on the painter Constable's name but another contestant was not allowed to even less time to correct her pronunciation of Madeleine L'Engle (and then deGuzman buzzed in and repeated what she had just said to gain the points). It happens, and I think the woman should get a return appearance/second chance.

The rule for taking too much time does seem to fluctuate at times. Some times the no response from the host comes a second or two after the answer is read while other times there's a noticeable lag. Kind of odd that this isn't more of an issue.

I saw that, and agree with you.

I suspect the rulings went this way:

    - on Guzman's response, he said "Constant", though it was sort of under his breath. Jennings perhaps didn't hear the response and wanted clarification when Guzman came up with "Constable", the correct answer. Jennings did not rule in any way before the change of response.

    - on the lady contestant's response, she started with "Angela LeGuin", which Jennings clearly heard and began his "No" response, and then she changed it to Ursula Leguin. Jennings had already ruled it as an incorrect response when she changed it.

I had forgotten the Angela detail already so that is more of a wrong response. Many times seen someone have a last name correct but an often optional first name wrong which means they are incorrect. I'm more on the fence about should she get a return ticket now...

I've noticed that, too, but I put it down to editing.

I'm sure we've all noticed that if the contestant responds without framing his response in the form of a question the host says nothing and waits for the time to be up.
It's up to the contestant to correct himself.

It’s absolutely editing. Back in the day they didn’t do that and most times they couldn’t get through the board. With editing in between responses the contestants are able to clear it most times. I’m glad they decided to do that. Look at an old Jeopardy episode in the 80s.

During the Jeopardy round, the host will ask the contestant to frame the answer as a question. During the Double Jeopardy round, this is not allowed.

Edit: This is true except for a Daily Double question.

I froze the picture of Emmet's answer What is the Emancipation Proclamation and could not decipher the gobbledegook he wrote down for the last word no matter how hard I stared at the screen. WTH?

One of the Jeopardy! fan sites suggested they bring back the keyboard that blind contestant Eddie Timaeus used to type his Final Jeopardy responses.

I see Ken Jennings does a guest appearance on the season premiere of "Call Me Kat". Either someone is trying really hard to make it seem that Ken and Mayim get along, or they actually do get along.

'Jeopardy!' executive producer is thinking of adding a major rule change

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- "Jeopardy!'s" executive producer is considering a major format change to the long-running game show.

Mike Davies wants to offer cash bonuses to contestants who correctly answer an entire column of clues under one topic.

The contestant would have to run through an entire category without jumping around the board.

Just want to say and this is coming from someone who initially wasn't all that thrilled to see KJ as a possible permanent host, I watch him now, see the ease he exudes in the job and think they picked the best person for the job. And he should be the only one, just like Art and Alex before him.

I think part of what you are feeling is the energy of the return of a live audience.

It's the man himself although I will concede that the audience probably has some effect on him.

Why not a 90-minute version with a Quadruple Jeopardy round?

    I liked 'Celebrity Jeopardy'.

I was a bit surprised they had questions concerning the passing of Queen Elizabeth-I though these episodes were filmed longer ago than that.
