If we are getting an Aqualung 40th 5.1 this year, and a Brick one next, does this mean they are planning to do all subsequent albums in 5.1? If so, I really hope they pick up the pace a bit and don't stick to this 40th Anniversary timeline - I really don't want to have to wait another 11 years for a 5.1 Broadsword!!!

I think they'll just do the most popular ones if surround Aqualung is a commercial success. Broadsword could be one of them. Transfering the multi-tracks, mixing and mastering in 5.1 is very expensive.

I think the chances of Aqualung 5.1 being a success are pretty good.

Personally, I'd quite happily pick up any Tull 5.1s up to and including Crest of a Knave.

But yes, I can see they'd probably concentrate on Broadsword, Heavy Horses, Brick for future releases.

I find myself of a mixed mind about classic rock releases in 5.1. I agree with the previous poster, there is a terrific amount of expense to remix to 5.1 and it really is a new creative process. if that is slowing down hi rez releases I am quite happy for these albums to come out in hi rez stereo. I would have been quite happy to skip all the SACD and DVD-A format wars and just get stereo 24/96 audio of the original mixes on a DVD-V disc playable on just about any DVD player. How nice to rewrite history and have the past 5-10 years or so full of high rez stereo releases giving music lovers and audiophiles "perfect sound forever" finally.

But, they would have been easy to copy....

    I guess they fixed that!

Those before benefit would be a crime but Brick I would think could be very fun in surround.

Its just too bad the 5.1 mix for Moving Pictures sounds like an Dolby Pro-Logic II upmix.

Just an amazing artist. Saw him last night with his other project, Blackfield.
Where does he find the time to record with Porcupine Tree, do solo projects, record with Blackfield, work with other artists and then engineer projects like King Crimson or Jethro Tull??????

I met this past winter in NYC at the debut of his film Insurgentes. A very very modest fella.

Well he just did Caravan's In The Land Of Grey And Pink for CD/DVD Audio, and I bet it's a safe bet he'll be handling Thick As A Brick also.

As for Aqualung, I'm actually more interested in the stereo remix than the surround mix. Aqualung has always sounded weak even compared to both Benefit and T.A.A.B. Steven could give Aqualung a new lease on life.

Was in Abbey Road recently and popped into Studio 3 to hear a beautiful alternate version of 'Cheap Day Return' with a lovely oboe part (I think?). Don't know if that'll appear but it just so happened that the engineer was going through 'Aqualung' on that day. If he'd had 'Benefit' up on the system I'd have RUN out with everything!! :D
