The Witches Promise was lost when they remixed it for 25th Anniversary Edition. What happened with half of Too Old... no idea.
I’m confused. I just saw a Utube interview with Ian and he talked about current work being done on Broadsword for a 2022 release w/o any mention of Benefit coming out. Can someone clarify if they know. Thx. In the interim loving A.
They could just sell a taller cardboard Benefit slipcase for the old digipak to placate Tullniks with OCD.
Great! Thx. I wish they would reissue the TAAB book set as I missed that one somehow. Same with War Child.
I'd like a bookset for 'Living in the Past.' Until then, I have the Japanese mini LP edition of the original UK issue.
If it has added content, then I'll absolutely buy it. If it just duplicates the 2013 set, then, yeah, I'll still buy it for the book. But it sounds like they're adding stuff.
They must have been missing already in 1993 as they remixed the TV version already back then. I have always wondered why that one had a different vocal take but didn't realise that it was a completely different recording.
I wasn't going to buy This Was or Benefit as booksets but gave in with This Was when it dropped to £20. But I haven't unwrapped it. I dont have a 5.1 set up, so it's all about the book and the the 2.0 mixes for me. However I listen to the mono This Was 40th disc way more than I listen to my Benefit 40th set. I'll be looking at the content of the new set. Disc 2 of the 40th edition is the most disappointing so far. SW has since avoided multiple mixes (more than 2) of the same few songs, so it'll be interesting to see what he does this time.
There was a separate (print) interview in which Ian talked about the Benefit set. If it wasn't quoted in this thread, then it's on another Tull thread on the Forum. Ah, but the multi-tracks for that song aren't missing, and were remixed for the Wilson set. The missing tapes are mostly from side 1 of the LP. I suspect that they just grabbed the wrong reel when they prepared the 1993 remixes. I, too, noticed the different vocal take, and thought that maybe the original was double-tracked and they used the harmony vocal by mistake. (I didn't study the song closely as it isn't one of my favorites.) Even after I learned that they re-recorded the album for the TV special, it didn't immediately occur to me that the tapes still existed at all. (Where are the two songs they recorded for Supersonic around the same time? "Too Old..." might be the standard album version, but "Living in the Past" is definitely a remake and would have been a fun audio/video inclusion in the TOTR&R set. It's also definitely mimed because you can hear the claves tapping at 2:21 while John Evans is still fishing for them in his pocket.)
Indeed. They left many promis outside of the box sets. Not only the TOTRR one, but also SFTW missed Solstice Bells, Heavy Horses missed Mouse Police, Stormwatch missed North Sea Oil and Old Ghosts, and A missed Crossfire and Fylingdale.
Luckily, Jethro Tull's own YouTube page has most of those TV appearances on a playlist, so we're not entirely deprived. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeVVPJRFgUTNdyUdDLwwL8TPSUHHbM__f
Which means they have the rights for the video and audio I assume. So why leave them out of the box sets?
