  2. Oh, you're most certainly right. EH has delivered the vinyl. They've done a good job at it, until maybe EL 50, though the jury is still out, for myself and perhaps for others.
As for bellyaching, well, people will be people. It's in our nature. I try not to grouse too much, yet it's so damned tempting. :)

    Will it though?

The stereo portion will be great, as the original Reprise CD already sounds fantastic, but what master do they have for the mono? The crappy sounding US mono master they used for the LP reissue a few years ago? Which for the non-single tracks is at least two generations away from the actual UK mono master mixes.

I really hope that I'm proved wrong on this one....

Honestly, Hendrix in mono is oxymoronic to me. Psychedelica in stereo!!!

Hopefully the delay was finding a better version of the mono tapes.

Mono rocks though...which is why it's not a binary question.

    I hope so!

If they managed to track down the tapes used for the Barclay mono, then re-assembled the mono album from the best sources the we'll be in for a treat.

I get that but I have heard a 1967' UK white label 7" of Purple Haze and it sounded brilliant!

Yeah sadly they went big on that one. Too much for me personally, or maybe it is just inherent problems with source IDK. I didn't master it. It didn't sound awful though.

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

Jeebus, the Hollywood Bowl CD doesn't sound good at all - bad even for a bootleg! I'm not even going to go further with that CD. The Book is nice, despite what appears to be odd colour correction of the cover photo. The sound - slightly better than the George Marino remaster, but inferior to the original Reprise 2CD set. Let's hope that an Analogue Productions
SACD hybrid master by Bernie Grundman WITH THE DYNAMICS INTACT (attention EH!!!) is going to happen - then I can put Electric Ladyland to bed.

"The recording has its limitations...", you don't say?

They probably should've included this on the Blu-ray.

I never understood the passion for Hendrix in mono. He was made for stereo and in his own words pushing the boundaries in stereo sound.

  16. This is so true. Hendrix's music was made for stereo, to be played in stereo and enjoyed in stereo. You guys are spot on. I always reach for Hendrix is stereo, first and foremost, because that was really where he, Kramer and Chandler put their efforts.

However, the draw for Hendrix in mono is not so much a testament to Hendrix, but to Kramer, as most of the mono mixes (especially on Axis) have an almost palpable depth to them that's not found in most rock mono mixes. They harken back to brilliant mono mixes of the 1950s, where a sense of space is perceived, even with one speaker.

So, yeah, mono wasn't what Hendrix had in mind, but Hendrix was at the mono mixing sessions with Kramer and Chandler, so he cared enough, at least. Plus, there are different elements in the mono mixes, so it's a cool alternate listen, although not every single mono mix was created equally between AYE & ABAL.

Having bought the Blu ray of EL from a forum member, I'm hard pressed to put the damn thing away !!! As good as the vinyl of Jimi sounds, and even the SACDs, for giving my sub woofer a real workout, only the BD sounds so powerful.

Hollywood is not even a good Hendrix bootleg, there are much better quality audience recordings and performances out there so I am so confused why it was even released :confused::confused:

Sounds like some are already preparing themselves for mono failure by convincing themselves that the mono AYE isnt that important..
